Subtle changes have been made for the 2021 Innova to give a more refined and prestigious look. The grille has a chrome and black theme while the door mirrors have chrome housings for a touch of class. The foglamps and foglamp bezels have also been redesigned and contribute to giving a bolder appearance. An Enhancement Package is included with the Innova 2.0X.

This exclusive package has new design for wheel arch mouldings for protecting the bodywork, new bodyside mouldings and redesigned side skirts that add a sporty touch. At the rear, the garnish on the back door has been restyled to visually widen the vehicle, while the roof spoiler (only for the Innova 2.0X) has been slightly reprofiled for aerodynamic improvements.

The wheels are maintained with the flagship Innova 2.0X having 17-inch alloy wheels finished in a new Dark Grey Metallic colour and fitted with 215/55R17 tyres. For the Innova 2.0G and 2.0E, the alloy wheels have a 16-inch diameter in a refreshed dual-tone finish and are fitted with 205/65R16 tyres.

Interior

Both the Innova 2.0X and Innova 2.0G come with high-quality Optitron meters in the instrument panel which provide bright and clear displays in all lighting conditions. Between the meters is a 4.2-inch full colour Multi Information Display (MID) that keeps the driver informed of fuel consumption and range available with the remaining fuel in the tank.

Responding to customer feedback, more charging ports have been added. The front 2 USB ports have been repositioned in the dashboard from the centre console and additional USB ports has been provided for those in the third row of seats. All the ports have Fast Charging capability for compatible smartphones and other portable devices.

Additionally, a wireless charging pad in the centre console is also available as an option for all variants. For 2021, additional features have been added to give the driver greater awareness of the surroundings to improve safety. The first is the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), standard for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G and optional for the Innova 2.0E.

The systems use sensors on the body and bumpers to detect other vehicles in the blind spot or approaching from either side during reversing out of a parking bay. Also provided as standard for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G is the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM).

This uses cameras around the bodywork to capture a 360-degree view around the vehicle. The driver can view the surroundings (with selectable views) and spot hazards to avoid. The PVM is especially useful when parking in narrow or tight parking spaces.

Safety

All variants are fitted with 7 SRS airbags and every one of the occupants on all three rows has a 3-point auto-retracting seatbelt. All variants also have ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), as well as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

The extensive standard safety systems that are provided as entire Innova range has made it possible for the Innova to receive the maximum 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. Contributing to this is the strong body structure which resists deformation while also dissipating impact energy before it can harm the occupants.

Besides the standard electronic security system, to provide greater peace of mind to owners, UMWT is now installing a Toyota Vehicle Telematics System (VTS) as standard in the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G, optional for the Innova 2.0E.

This system can track the vehicle’s movements using GPS and GSM technology. If the vehicle is stolen, the VTS Command Centre can determine its location and inform relevant authorities to make recovery faster.

Powertrain

The Innova continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine with high fuel efficiency and strong midrange torque. With enhanced combustion efficiency, the lightweight engine produces 139 ps at 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm which goes to the rear wheels.

All variants are fitted with a 6-speed Super ECT electronic automatic transmission (Super ECT). As with most of the models offered by UMWT, there is a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage, subject to terms and conditions.

2021 Toyota Innova Teased, Launching Soon

2021 toyota inova

Those who’re following Toyota Malaysia on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram would have noticed that the company has teased the arrival of the updated 2021 Toyota Innova.

The 2021 Toyota, which was just launched in Indonesia last October, will come with an updated exterior, new interior features, as well as new safety features like the Toyota Safety Sense suite of safety features like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), and lane keeping assist (LKA) among others.

Other goodies like front and rear Digital Video Recorder (DVR) should be thrown into the mix as well, but let us wait and see what UMWT has in store for us.

Measuring 4,735 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height with a wheelbase length of 2,750 mm, the 2021 Toyota Innova remains the same in terms of dimensions.

Visually, however, the MPV does look a bit different thanks to new features like the redesigned LED headlights and taillights, a new front grille design, new wheels, as well as more grey and black trims versus the current chrome bits.

No details have been disclosed yet by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, but we expect the three existing variants (E,V,X) to remain.

Although the X variant was only introduced later on for the current Innova, the updated version seems to have it in the lineup from the get-go, as we can see it in the teaser image. Unless, Toyota wants to call it something else like the Innova “Venturer” in Indonesia.

Inside, the new Toyota Innova should come with a new and improved infotainment system similar to the one found in the new 2020 Toyota Hilux which also happens to share the same platform as the Innova.

Depending on variant, features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a larger touch screen display should come as standard, as opposed to the existing 9-inch display.

Since it is only a facelift, we can expect the existing 1TR-FE 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and 6-speed automatic gearbox combo to be carried over. Together, they produce an output of 139 PS and 183 Nm of torque.

Currently, the Toyota Innova is priced at RM110,034 for the E variant, RM117,364 for the G variant, and RM127,126 for the X variant, on the road with SST, without insurance.

As for the updated 2021 Toyota Innova, we can expect a slight drop in price since the government has announced that SST exemption has been extended until June 2021.

Whatever it is, nothing is official just yet, so watch this space for more announcements revolving around the 2021 Toyota Innova.
