Porsche recently announced the Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific, a new e-sports event organised by Porsche Asia Pacific together with Porsche Japan, Porsche Korea, and Porsche Taiwan.
With this latest simulation racing tournament, Porsche is building on the success of e-sports events such as the Porsche Asia Pacific Forza Cup in 2020, the Porsche SimRacing Trophy and Porsche E-sports Supercup, making the sports car manufacturer one of the forerunning automobile brands to engage in e-sports racing.
Gran Turismo Sport in PS4
The Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific will be played in Gran Turismo Sport, a game designed for Sony’s PlayStation 4 console.
The e-sports tournament is open to participants from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines and New Zealand, who will collect points across five qualifying rounds, each of which will comprise two competition slots.
Competitors who make it through to the five spots in the semifinals will meet the top racers from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan – each sending their best five.
Top 10
The top 10 competitors who win the semifinals will then battle it out at the finals and the winner will receive the grand prize of an all-expenses paid Porsche weekend in Tokyo, including a visit to the Porsche Experience Centre Tokyo and many more Porsche moments.
The qualifying races will be held at the most famous racing circuits around the globe, including the Circuit de la Sarthe from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is where Porsche has won a record 19 titles.
And then we have the Fuji Speedway, where World Endurance Championship (WEC) races have been held, the Mount Panorama Circuit of the Bathurst 24 Hour race, and the Goodwood Motor Circuit, the location of the most famous classic car event in the world.
Different cars will be used for each race, including the 919 Hybrid and 962 C for Le Mans, along with the 356 A, a famous model from the motor sports scene of the 1950s, meaning that drivers will need a wide range of skills to emerge victorious.
