Following its recent launch in Malaysia, the all-new Proton Saga has now begun its international journey with its first export introduction in Brunei. The move marks the second model launch for the brand in the country this year, arriving shortly after the debut of the Proton X50 in January.
The rollout highlights Brunei’s importance within Proton’s export strategy. As one of the brand’s longest-standing overseas markets, the country continues to serve as an early launch destination for new models as Proton expands its footprint across Southeast Asia.
The export version of the new Saga represents more than just a model expansion. It signals Proton’s increasing push to bring locally developed engineering and technology to international markets.

Built on the company’s Proton Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), the sedan introduces improvements in structural rigidity, safety systems and digital connectivity compared with the outgoing model.
Key upgrades include the availability of six airbags and a larger 12-inch infotainment display, features that are intended to strengthen the Saga’s value proposition in the entry-level sedan segment. These updates reflect Proton’s broader strategy of elevating its product competitiveness while growing export volume as a long-term business pillar.
The new platform also underlines the brand’s efforts to develop its own technological capabilities. Proton’s AMA architecture forms part of a wider push to enhance local engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities, which are being supported by developments at the Automotive High-Tech Valley in Tanjong Malim.

The initiative aims to position the facility as a regional hub for right-hand-drive vehicle production and next-generation automotive development.
Proton’s confidence in introducing the model abroad is backed by strong early demand in its home market. Since its Malaysian debut, more than 20,000 units of the new Saga have already been registered, reaffirming the sedan’s role as one of the company’s key volume models.
At the same time, Proton has been steadily expanding its export business. The automaker recorded approximately 6,000 export units last year as it works toward an ambitious target of having exports account for 30 percent of total sales by 2030. The company also plans to broaden its global reach to at least 32 international markets over the coming years.
According to Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton International Corporation Sdn. Bhd., the introduction of the new Saga in Brunei reinforces the brand’s intention to grow its presence in the entry-level segment across regional markets.

He noted that leveraging proprietary technology such as the AMA platform allows Proton to enhance product appeal while strengthening its export-led growth strategy, particularly within the ASEAN region.
Brunei has long played a strategic role in Proton’s overseas roadmap. As one of the brand’s earliest export destinations, the market continues to provide a strong foundation for expansion thanks to consistent customer acceptance and the support of local distributor PAD Motors.
For Bruneian buyers, the all-new Proton Saga is offered in two variants:
- Executive – B$16,800 (RM58,800)
- Premium – B$18,800 (RM65,800)
Early adopters will also benefit from a B$500 discount for the first 100 customers. The model is backed by a five-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, along with three complimentary labour services.
