These are the Top 5 EVs in Malaysia With the Longest WLTP Range in 2026

EV WLTP

For years, one of the biggest questions surrounding electric vehicles has been a simple one – how far can it actually go on a single charge?

That question is becoming increasingly difficult to answer simply because the Malaysian EV market has expanded rapidly, with manufacturers quoting range figures based on different testing standards.

Some Chinese manufacturers quote CLTC, while older models have used NEDC. For this comparison, however, we are sticking strictly to WLTP, which provides a more meaningful basis for comparing different EVs, and the results are rather interesting.

The arrival of the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive and Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ Electric has pushed the benchmark for long-range EVs in Malaysia to almost 800 km, while the Tesla Model 3 continues to offer remarkable range at a considerably lower price.

That being said, here are the five longest-range EVs currently available in Malaysia, ranked according to their maximum official WLTP range.

NEDC vs WLTP: Which is more realistic?

Before getting into the cars themselves, it is important to understand why we are using WLTP rather than NEDC.

NEDC, or New European Driving Cycle, is an older testing procedure originally developed in the 1980s. The test uses relatively gentle acceleration, lower speeds and a relatively limited range of driving conditions. As a result, NEDC figures can be considerably more optimistic than the range an owner experiences in everyday driving.

WLTP, or Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure, is the newer testing standard. It incorporates higher speeds, stronger acceleration and a wider variety of driving conditions, making it a considerably more representative benchmark.

That does not mean WLTP is a guarantee of real-world range. In Malaysia, factors such as high temperatures, extensive use of air-conditioning, traffic congestion, high-speed highway driving, tyre pressures, passenger and luggage loads and driving style can all affect an EV’s actual range.

Nevertheless, WLTP is the more realistic and useful figure when comparing EVs, and that is why it is used throughout this feature.

It is also important not to compare a vehicle’s CLTC figure directly against a WLTP figure. A Chinese-market EV quoting 1,000 km CLTC, for example, does not necessarily have more real-world range than an EV rated at 800 km WLTP.

1. BMW iX3 50 xDrive (Up to 805 km)

BMW iX3

The new BMW iX3 50 xDrive is now the undisputed range champion in Malaysia, becoming the first locally available EV to officially break the 800 km barrier on the WLTP cycle.

The iX3 is the first production model from BMW’s new Neue Klasse generation and uses the company’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. According to BMW Malaysia, the iX3 50 xDrive has a WLTP range of 678 to 805 km, depending on configuration and conditions.

Power comes from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system producing 345 kW, or 469 hp, and 645 Nm of torque. The iX3 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h.

BMW iX3

It uses a 108.7 kWh battery, with DC charging capability of up to 400 kW. BMW says the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 21 minutes under suitable conditions.

Perhaps more impressive is the price. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro is priced at RM378,800 OTR without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, while the version bundled with BMW Service Inclusive and extended warranty costs RM399,800.

BMW iX3

That makes the iX3 not only the longest-range EV in Malaysia, but potentially one of the most compelling combinations of range, performance and price in the premium EV segment.

Battery: 108.7 kWh
Power: 469 hp
Torque: 645 Nm
WLTP range: Up to 805 km
Price: RM378,800 OTR without insurance

2. Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ Electric (Up to 792 km)

Mercedes-Benz CLA electric

Just 13 km behind the BMW iX3 is the new Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ Electric, which is arguably even more impressive when battery size and price are taken into consideration.

Officially launched in Malaysia in August 2026, the CLA 250+ achieves up to 792 km of WLTP range from an 85 kWh NMC battery. Its published WLTP range is between 673 and 792 km, depending on specification and conditions.

The CLA 250+ uses a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, producing 272 PS (200 kW) and 335 Nm. It also features an 800-volt electrical architecture and can accept up to 320 kW of DC charging.

Mercedes-Benz CLA electric

The numbers make the CLA particularly interesting because its 85 kWh battery is significantly smaller than the 108.7 kWh unit in the BMW iX3, yet its official range is only 13 km shorter.

It is also considerably cheaper. The Malaysian-market CLA 250+ Electric AMG Line is priced at RM274,888 OTR without insurance, making it the most affordable EV in this top five by a considerable margin.

For buyers who prioritise efficiency and long-distance capability rather than outright performance, the CLA 250+ could arguably be the most interesting car on this list.

Battery: 85 kWh NMC
Power: 272 PS
Torque: 335 Nm
WLTP range: Up to 792 km
Price: RM274,888 OTR without insurance

3. Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD (Up to 750km)

Tesla Model 3 long range

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD may now sit behind the two newest German EVs, but it remains one of the most impressive long-distance EVs available in Malaysia — particularly when its price is taken into account.

The current Premium Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version is rated at up to 750 km WLTP, according to Tesla’s Malaysian inventory listings.

The Malaysian-market version uses a reported 78.4 kWh battery and produces 315 hp and 450 Nm, with power sent exclusively to the rear wheels. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.

Tesla Model 3

Unlike BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Tesla does not publish detailed battery-capacity and motor-output specifications in the same way, so the 78.4 kWh and 315 hp figures should be regarded as reported specifications rather than Tesla-published figures.

The big attraction, however, is the price. The current Model 3 Premium Long Range RWD is listed at RM187,000 in Malaysia. Tesla’s inventory system can also show vehicle-specific discounts and pricing, so buyers should check the current price when ordering.

At RM187,000, the Model 3 offers 750 km of claimed WLTP range for substantially less money than anything else in this top five.

Battery: 78.4 kWh
Power: 315 hp
Torque: 450 Nm
WLTP range: Up to 750 km
Price: RM187,000 OTR

Battery and power figures are commonly reported specifications; Tesla does not officially publish these figures in its Malaysian consumer specifications.

4. BMW iX xDrive60 (Up to 701 km)

BMW iX

The arrival of the new iX3 may have taken the spotlight away from it, but the BMW iX xDrive60 remains one of Malaysia’s longest-range EVs.

BMW Malaysia quotes a maximum WLTP range of 701 km for the iX xDrive60, with the official range band extending from 564 to 701 km.

The xDrive60 uses a large 111.5 kWh gross battery and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 536 hp and 765 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

BMW iX

The iX’s biggest advantage over the newer iX3 is size and positioning. It is a larger, more luxurious SUV with a particularly spacious cabin, making it more of a premium long-distance cruiser than the sportier and more compact iX3.

The BMW iX xDrive60 M Sport Pro is priced at RM487,800 OTR without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia.

Interestingly, BMW’s current Malaysian range starts at RM425,800 for the iX xDrive45, but that model has a maximum WLTP range of only around 602 km and therefore does not qualify for this top five.

Battery: 111.5 kWh gross
Power: 536 hp
Torque: 765 Nm
WLTP range: Up to 701 km
Price: RM487,800 OTR without insurance

5. Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC (Up to 696 km)

Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC rounds out the top five, despite having been on the Malaysian market for several years.

The locally assembled flagship EV uses a 108.4 kWh battery and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 449 hp and 828 Nm. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia quotes a WLTP range of 580 to 696 km.

Its aerodynamic liftback body, air suspension and exceptionally quiet cabin make the EQS particularly well suited to long-distance travel. It can also accept up to 200 kW of DC charging.

The EQS 500 4MATIC is priced at RM648,888 OTR without insurance in Malaysia and is locally assembled at Mercedes-Benz’s Pekan facility.

The EQS is no longer the range leader it once was, but its combination of luxury, refinement and almost 700 km of official range means it remains a formidable long-distance EV.

Battery: 108.4 kWh
Power: 449 hp
Torque: 828 Nm
WLTP range: Up to 696 km
Price: RM648,888 OTR without insurance

What about the Denza Z9GT?

Denza Z9GT

The Denza Z9GT absolutely deserves a mention, especially considering its enormous battery and spectacular performance.

However, it does not make this particular top five when we rank cars strictly according to WLTP range.

The Malaysian Z9GT EV uses a huge 122.49 kWh battery and produces a remarkable 1,156 PS and 1,210 Nm. Its official WLTP range is 600 km, while the Malaysian launch price is RM358,800.

Denza Z9GT

The reason you may encounter considerably higher range figures for the Z9GT online is that some markets quote CLTC figures. Those figures should not be compared directly with the WLTP figures used in this article.

So while the Z9GT is one of Malaysia’s most powerful and technically impressive EVs, its 600 km WLTP rating puts it outside the top five for range.

The bottom line

The Malaysian EV market has moved on considerably from the days when 400 or 500 km of claimed range was considered exceptional.

Today, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive leads the Malaysian market with up to 805 km of WLTP range, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ comes remarkably close at 792 km despite using a considerably smaller 85 kWh battery.

But perhaps the most interesting car here is the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD. At RM187,000, its 750 km WLTP rating means buyers can get more than 700 km of official range without entering the RM300,000-plus premium EV market.

The important thing to remember, however, is that WLTP is a benchmark, not a promise.

Real-world range will almost always vary depending on speed, traffic, temperature, air-conditioning use, terrain, tyre pressures, driving style and how much weight the vehicle is carrying. BMW itself explicitly notes that real-life values can vary due to factors including driving style, route, weather, air-conditioning and battery condition.

For Malaysian buyers, therefore, WLTP remains the best number to use when comparing EVs — but it should never be interpreted as the exact distance the car will travel every time it is charged to 100 per cent.

As of 20 August 2026, if maximum official WLTP range is the only thing that matters, the BMW iX3 is Malaysia’s range king.
