Malaysia has become the first market in the Asia Pacific region to welcome the all-new Denza Z9GT, with the premium electric grand tourer officially launched at a starting price of RM358,800.
The launch marks another significant milestone for BYD’s premium brand, following the successful introduction of DENZA in Malaysia earlier this year. More importantly, it signals BYD’s growing confidence in Malaysia as a strategic market for showcasing some of its most advanced technologies before they are rolled out across the region.
While many luxury EVs compete on outright performance or extravagant interiors, the DENZA Z9GT aims to differentiate itself by combining both with a suite of intelligent vehicle technologies rarely seen in production cars today.
Speaking during the event, Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD and General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, highlighted the company’s rapid technological growth, revealing that BYD has now produced more than 17 million new energy vehicles globally, while cumulative sales have surpassed 4.6 million units.
Technology
Unlike conventional performance EVs that simply chase acceleration figures, the DENZA Z9GT has been engineered around BYD’s latest e3 Platform, an intelligent vehicle architecture designed to improve not only speed, but also manoeuvrability, stability and everyday usability.
A tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces an astonishing 1,156 PS and 1,210 Nm of torque, allowing the Z9GT to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
The e3 Platform introduces technologies that dramatically improve low-speed agility, including rear-wheel steering capable of turning up to 15 degrees, giving the Z9GT a remarkably tight 4.62-metre turning radius despite its sizeable footprint.
The system also enables several unique driving functions that have become signature BYD technologies:
- Crab Mode, allowing the vehicle to move diagonally in tight spaces.
- Compass Turn, enabling the car to pivot within an extremely confined area.
- e3 Intelligent Parking, designed to simplify parking manoeuvres.
- Vehicle Motion Control (VMC) for improved stability and safety during emergency situations.
These are not simply novelty features—they solve genuine real-world challenges, especially in urban environments where parking and manoeuvring large vehicles can often be difficult.
Second-Generation Blade Battery Debuts
Another major highlight is the introduction of BYD’s Second Generation Blade Battery, making the DENZA Z9GT one of the first production models globally to receive the new battery technology.
The battery pack has a capacity of 122.49 kWh and operates on a 1,000V high-voltage architecture, laying the foundation for significantly faster charging speeds.
According to DENZA, the battery supports BYD Flash Charging Technology, enabling charging from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, or from 10% to 97% in only nine minutes under compatible ultra-high-power charging conditions.
The battery also delivers up to 701 km of driving range (NEDC) while offering approximately 5% greater energy density than the previous Blade Battery generation without compromising the safety credentials that have made Blade Battery technology one of BYD’s strongest selling points.
Interior
Inside, the cabin features high-quality materials alongside an extensive suite of comfort and technology features, including a Devialet 20-speaker premium audio system, Google Built-in infotainment, advanced connectivity, and multiple interior themes tailored to different exterior colours.
The result is a cabin that feels every bit like a modern luxury flagship, while maintaining a strong emphasis on technology.
