Volkswagen Unaffected by Chip Shortage, No Waiting Period for New Models

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Highline

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM), the authorised distributor of Volkswagen vehicles in Malaysia recently announced that production of the brand’s vehicles in Malaysia is currently not affected by the recent shortage of semiconductor chips.

This means that there will not be any waiting period for all Volkswagen models that are currently on sale in Malaysia, for now at least.

In case you didn’t know, Malaysia is a major hub for chip production, testing, and packaging for various automotive brands worldwide.

With global semiconductor chip suppliers like Infineon Technologies AG, NXP Semiconductors NV, and STMicroelectronics all operating from Malaysia, the recent economic shut-down due to rising Covid-19 cases here resulted in all these companies’ operations coming to a halt.

This unfortunately disrupted production for numerous car brands worldwide, resulting in longer waiting period for customers who purchased a new vehicle from the affected brands.

However, since Volkswagen is not affected by the crisis, those who purchase a new Volkswagen vehicle in Malaysia do not have to wait for their new car for a long time.

Up to RM6,500 rebate for a new Volkswagen

On a separate note, all of Volkswagen’s dealerships in Malaysia have resumed operations in line with the Government’s National Recovery Plan (NRP).

To celebrate the reopening of business, the company is offering exclusive deals that include 1-year free insurance, RM3,500 online rebate, and additional savings of up to RM6,500 for the Passat Elegance.

The Passat R-Line comes with 1-year free petrol, RM3,500 online rebate, and additional savings of RM5,500.

Showrooms nationwide are now open to individuals who have completed their vaccinations, and in strict adherence to latest set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) released by the Government and #SafeHands measures.

As an added safety precaution, only fully-vaccinated sales consultants will serve customers.

No vaccine, no test drive

In accordance with the most recent SOPs for states in phase 2 of NRP, test drive is also allowed for fully-vaccinated individuals.

All models in the Volkswagen line-up are available for test drive, including the recently launched Arteon R-Line 4Motion.

Furthermore, with the upcoming Malaysia Day long weekend, Volkswagen dealerships will be hosting a virtual showroom event from 16th to 19th September.

Customers may tune in to the respective dealership’s social media channels to learn about the models and latest offers.
