Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the all-new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, the range-topping seven-seat SUV priced from RM237,490.
With the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which includes five years of free maintenance, five years’ manufacturer warranty and five years’ roadside assistance, the price rises to RM250,074.
The Tayron R-Line sits between the Tiguan and Touareg in Volkswagen’s SUV line-up and is locally assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan. It joins the more comfort-oriented Tayron Elegance, which uses a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid powertrain.
265PS, 400Nm and 4MOTION
The biggest difference with the R-Line is its performance-focused powertrain. It gets a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine producing 265PS and 400Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission.
Power is sent to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, giving the Tayron stronger traction and stability across different road conditions.
Adding to its driving credentials is Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), which uses electronically controlled two-valve dampers to continuously adjust the suspension according to road conditions and driving style.
This allows the R-Line to balance everyday ride comfort with sharper handling when required.
Sportier looks, premium cabin
The Tayron R-Line also gets a more aggressive appearance, with exclusive R-Line exterior detailing, IQ.Light HD Matrix headlights, an illuminated Volkswagen badge and 3D LED rear lights with dynamic turn signals.
Inside, the focus is on comfort and technology. The front Varenna leather ergoActive Plus seats offer 12-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and a 10-air-cushion pneumatic massage function.
The cabin also features a 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment display, 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, head-up display and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For audiophiles, Volkswagen has fitted a Harman Kardon 10+1-speaker system with a subwoofer, 700-watt output and 16-channel digital amplifier.
Despite its performance focus, practicality remains a major part of the Tayron package. Its seven-seat configuration includes 40:20:40 split-folding second-row seats and 50:50 split-folding third-row seats, with up to 1,905 litres of luggage space when both rows are folded.
Packed with IQ.DRIVE safety technology
The Tayron R-Line comes equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance systems, including Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, Park Assist Plus, Emergency Assist and Driver Attention Monitor.
Occupant protection is further supported by nine airbags, including a front-centre airbag, as well as a Proactive Passenger Protection System.
Early Merdeka rewards for first 69 owners
To mark the launch, Volkswagen is offering special Merdeka rewards to the first 69 Tayron R-Line owners.
The package includes seven years of free maintenance, complimentary accident and car key coverage, as well as a chance to win a 3D/2N luxury holiday.
The Tayron R-Line is available for viewing at authorised Volkswagen dealerships nationwide from 13 August, while the Volkswagen Tour at 1 Utama Shopping Centre will showcase both the Tayron Elegance and R-Line until 31 August 2026.
With its combination of 265PS performance, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, sophisticated suspension technology, seven-seat practicality and premium equipment, the Tayron R-Line gives Volkswagen a more performance-oriented contender in Malaysia’s premium family SUV segment.
