Isuzu Malaysia is heralding another new year on an upbeat note as the brand has sealed the No. 1 position in two categories for the year 2020 – as Malaysia’s No. 1 truck for the 7th consecutive year and light-duty truck for the 11th consecutive year.
These achievements are based on the annual truck sales data by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
No.1 for 7 years straight
Contributing to the position of No. 1 truck brand for the 7th consecutive year is Isuzu Malaysia’s total combined sales of 4,747 units of trucks in all segments that were sold last year.
Meanwhile, the company’s record success as the most preferred light-duty truck brand in Malaysia for the 11th consecutive year was cemented by the brand’s flagship ELF truck with the sales of 4,551 units in last year alone.
Koji Nakamura, Chief Executive Officer of Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd shared, “Isuzu Malaysia is extremely delighted to have wrapped up the year 2020 with great achievements and to welcome this new year with double celebrations after having secured the top position for both truck and light-duty truck brand categories once again.
“The total number of trucks we have sold last year is the highest market share that we have recorded since Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd was established. Last year was also our company’s 40th year anniversary in Malaysia, so this success is definitely a notable milestone for us.”
“It is also a reflection of our teams’ unrelenting commitment in making strong progress on our business execution. Our focus is to constantly strengthen the quality of our products and efficiency of our services to serve our customers better.”
“The pandemic situation in the past year had posed many extraordinary challenges for many people and companies across all industries. Despite the uphill market environment, I am pleased that we have managed to stay on course and effectively maximized our resources to help our customers move forward with their business operations.”
Nakamura also said that some of Isuzu Malaysia’s strategic initiatives to sustain truck sales growth, enhance service quality and increase customer satisfaction despite the challenging market situation in the past year include dealership network expansion, introduction of new product innovation and ensuring the timely delivery of new trucks to customers.
The 2020 Isuzu ELF Series
One of the significant highlights which had contributed to the continuous success of Isuzu as the most preferred light-duty truck brand last year was the launch of the enhanced Isuzu ELF which offers the Isuzu Safety Plus platform featuring a combination of safety system upgrades, B20 biodiesel compatibility and greater warranty benefits.
The enhancements are available in 19 variants of the top-selling ELF, which offers the widest range in light-duty truck market to help truck operators run a safer, more productive and sustainable business.
He further commented, “Isuzu Malaysia’s strategy has always been built around having satisfied and productive customers and I am glad that our achievements had demonstrated a well-performed year for us.”
I would also like to commend and thank all our employees and skilled dealership teams for always making extra efforts for our customers. Their dedication has contributed hugely to Isuzu Malaysia’s uninterrupted leading position.”
Outlook for 2021
“Looking ahead in this new year, I believe that Malaysia’s economy will slowly but steadily improve, and many industries will further recover too.”
“Although Isuzu is now well-known for offering a wide range of trucks that have become the preferred choice for quality, durability and cost-efficiency, we will continue to remain focused on providing more excellence and value to all our customers.”
“Importantly, Isuzu Malaysia’s aim this year is to continue rendering assistance in essential services, ensuring smooth delivery of products and making contribution for people’s daily life and business,” Nakamura concluded.
Isuzu Malaysia recently launched the enhanced ELF light-duty truck range that comes equipped with Isuzu Safety Plus platform featuring a combination of crucial safety system upgrades.
The enhanced ELF range is also B20 biodiesel compatible and comes with greater warranty than before.
The enhancements are available in 18 variants of the ELF, which ranges from 4-wheeler to 6-wheeler. With the introduction of the newly enhanced trucks, Isuzu now offers the widest light-duty truck range equipped with the comprehensive Isuzu Safety Plus platform and other relevant features to help truck operators run a safer, more productive and sustainable business.
The ISUZU Safety Plus platform is supported by four main safety features which include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Anti-slip Regulator (ASR) and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Airbag.
This enhanced ELF range with Isuzu Safety Plus is the first in its segment that offers the full benefits of Isuzu’s S.E.E Technology, which signifies the three core aspects of Safety, Economy and Environment. Here, safety is derived from being a market leader in introducing both active and passive safety features, economy from the extensive warranty offered and environmental care from the B20 biodiesel compatible technology.
The Isuzu ELF segment has enjoyed being the top-selling light-duty truck for the past 10 years in Malaysia, and the introduction of this new range is expected to perpetuate its market-leading position.
Featuring active safety aspects for maximum protection, the ABS safety feature in the Isuzu Safety Plus platform efficiently reduces the risk of skidding by preventing the wheels from locking up during braking on slippery surfaces. It helps to maintain traction with road surface, thus giving a more secure directional stability and solid handling for the driver.
Paired with the ABS is the EBD which functions by automatically distributing the ideal brake force for all wheels based on the weight of the load, road condition and speed. This feature maximizes stopping power by enabling a precise brake force distribution, giving the driver greater vehicular control.
The Isuzu Safety Plus benefit is further amplified by the ASR function, which has an on/off option that can prevent the wheels from spinning during slippery road conditions and cornering by increasing road traction. This increases the life span of the tires too.
In addition, a vital passive safety feature included in the ELF range with Isuzu Safety Plus is the SRS Airbag which reduces impact and injuries to the driver in the event of a head-on collision with a stationary or moving vehicle or object.
On top of that, the seat belt system presents two key functions to ensure utmost safety. Firstly, the Seat Belt Pre-Tensioner operates by retracting the belt instantly and removing the slack in the belt to firmly secure the driver. Secondly, the Seat Belt Load Limiter releases the webbing force gradually so as to not exert too much pressure on the driver’s chest, thus minimizing bodily injury in the event a frontal accident occurs.
More than safety features, the enhanced ELF range with Isuzu Safety Plus builds on proven technology and reliability and the trucks come readily compatible with B20 biodiesel renewable energy, as mandated by the government in line with promoting cleaner fuel to increase Malaysia’s energy security, improve air quality and the environment.
Customers who purchase the enhanced ELF range with Isuzu Safety Plus will get to enjoy extended warranty coverage of 5 Years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first. This extensive warranty coverage is one of the best in the market, demonstrating Isuzu’s commitment in extending solid and long-term support to its Malaysian customers and helping them to lower their overall operating cost.
Truck Venture Sdn Bhd, a new Isuzu Malaysia authorised dealer, has successfully made its first handover recently. An official handover ceremony was held at their showroom in Petaling Jaya, to commemorate the procurement of one unit of Isuzu ELF Light Duty 6-wheeler model by LOM Logistics Sdn Bhd.
LOM Logistics Sdn Bhd is a freight forwarding and transportation company, with its operation mainly focusing on the Water Transportation sector. The newly procured ELF Light Duty truck is a new addition to their current fleet, and is expected to strengthen their nationwide logistics presence.
The procured unit, an Isuzu ELF Light Duty 6-wheeler, offers ‘Smoother’ – Isuzu’s original automated manual transmission (AMT) that provides a more efficient and smoother driving experience, aside from reduced maintenance costs, improved fuel efficiency and a higher level of safety, resulting in a more cost-effective operation for businesses in the long run.
During the handover ceremony, Koji Nakamura, Chief Executive Officer of Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd, took the opportunity to convey his appreciation to LOM Logistics Sdn Bhd for their trust and support shown through their preference for the Isuzu brand name during this challenging economic period. Nakamura is confident that this procurement will further fortify LOM Logistics’ plans of business expansion.
Later, to commemorate the special occasion, Nakamura presented a symbolic mock key and an appreciation gift in the form of an Isuzu Miniature Truck to LOM Logistics Sdn Bhd Manager, Lee Sanghaag. The ceremony was also attended by Atsunori Murata, Chief Operations Officer of Isuzu Malaysia. Also in attendance were representatives from Truck Venture Sdn Bhd, including Loo Siok Yee, Consultant Director, and Loo Siok Hua, Sales Manager.
Truck Venture Sdn Bhd, which began its operation recently in May this year, offers Isuzu’s full commercial vehicle line-up, and is conveniently located in Section 51A, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
With electrification taking over the automotive industry, Isuzu Motors has also jumped in on the electrification wave with their Elf Series of trucks.
Isuzu is best known for building some of the most reliable and efficient diesel engines in the world and now comes an all-electric medium-duty truck. The popular Elf truck removes its turbodiesel engine for a battery pack and a set of electric motors for clean emissions logistics.
Isuzu had the electric powered Elf, as well as the upgraded Giga at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
As early as January 2018, Isuzu have been testing battery-electric trucks which had two 40kWh battery packs, between the right front and rear wheels and between the left front and rear wheels. Maximum output was expected to be 150kW and the load capacity is reported to be about 3000kg.
Isuzu also tested their electric drive Elf in America with the Class 4 NPR-HD, which has a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,500 lbs.
