BMW Group Malaysia has announced the appointment of Raymond Tan Chor Ann as its new Managing Director, effective 1 September 2026, making him the first Malaysian to lead the company’s local operations.

He succeeds Benjamin Nagel, who will take on the role of Managing Director of BMW Group Importer Markets TW, HK, MC, overseeing Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Raymond’s appointment marks a return to Malaysia after years in regional and global leadership roles within the BMW Group. A member of BMW Group Malaysia’s pioneering team in 2003, he started as Product and Price Planning Manager before moving to the company’s headquarters in Munich as Regional Product Manager.

He later returned to Malaysia as Head of Marketing before assuming the role of Head of Sales, where he led nationwide sales operations and dealer network performance.

As Managing Director, Raymond will oversee BMW Group Malaysia’s operations across the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands. His priorities include strengthening the retail network, improving customer loyalty, and preparing the company for the arrival of the upcoming Neue Klasse model range.

“I’m excited to return to Malaysia to lead the National Sales Company as the first local Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, particularly at this pivotal moment as the BMW Group prepares for a new era with the upcoming introduction of the Neue Klasse range of models,” said Raymond.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Nagel leaves Malaysia after leading the company through a period of rapid transformation, including the expansion of its electrified vehicle portfolio, digitalisation initiatives, and dealer network development.

Nagel will now oversee BMW Group’s importer markets in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, bringing with him more than two decades of international experience across Germany, India, South Africa, Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Commenting on his new role, Nagel said he looks forward to applying the experience gained in Malaysia to further strengthen customer engagement and drive sustainable growth across the three importer markets.

BMW Group said the leadership transition ensures continuity as the company enters its next growth phase while continuing to focus on electrification, digitalisation, premium customer experience and expanding its Technology Openness and Power of Choice strategy.
