PROTON has entered into a strategic collaboration with Touch ‘n Go Sdn. Bhd. to integrate RFID technology into the newly launched Proton X50, further strengthening Malaysia’s connected mobility ecosystem.

The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at PROTON’s Centre of Excellence headquarters, will see every Proton X50 fitted with a Touch ‘n Go RFID tag directly at the production line. This move enables seamless access to Malaysia’s network of RFID-enabled highways, offering drivers greater convenience from the moment they take delivery of their vehicles.

The signing ceremony was attended by Touch ‘n Go Chief Executive Officer Praba Sangarajoo and Proton Edar Deputy Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang, with senior representatives from both companies witnessing the agreement.

Speaking at the event, Praba highlighted the value of the initiative, stating that the pre-installed RFID delivers “instant gratification” to new owners. “You drive away with RFID already in place — no extra steps needed. This is about making mobility smarter, faster, and more intuitive while creating real value for Malaysians,” he said. He also noted that the partnership underscores the strength of collaboration between two homegrown companies committed to enhancing everyday mobility.

The Proton X50, launched on 24 July, has already recorded strong demand with 2,000 units delivered within the first three weeks. As PROTON’s best-selling SUV, more than 140,000 units have been produced since its initial introduction.

The latest model combines a refreshed design, updated cabin, improved connectivity features, and a new 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine. With RFID now offered as standard across all variants, the SUV is the first in the brand’s line-up to benefit from this convenience.

Zhang Qiang emphasised that the addition of RFID aligns with the X50’s tagline, Intelligence That Amazes. “With the new model, we wanted to deliver more value to our customers without increasing prices. Adding Touch ‘n Go RFID enhances the ownership experience and makes the X50 even more appealing,” he said.

PROTON also confirmed that discussions are underway to expand the partnership beyond the X50. Future models could similarly be equipped with RFID tags to enhance convenience across the wider range.

“Our goal is to continuously raise customer satisfaction levels, and extending RFID integration to other models is certainly a step in that direction,” Zhang added.
