New BMW 7 Series Debuts With Neue Klasse Tech, Longer-Range i7 and Next-Gen Cabin

BMW 7 Series

BMW has unveiled the seventh-generation BMW 7 Series, marking what the company describes as its most comprehensive model update yet. Serving as the brand’s flagship, the new 7 Series also becomes the first in the current line-up to integrate key technologies from BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse platform.

The model made its global debut at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, with production set to begin in September at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany.

The latest 7 Series introduces a new design direction for BMW’s luxury models. It adopts a cleaner, more monolithic look, with simplified surfaces and sharper lines replacing the more intricate styling of its predecessor.

Up front, the signature kidney grille has been reworked with slimmer proportions and integrated illumination, flanked by ultra-slim daytime running lights. At the rear, newly designed taillights now stretch across the full width of the car, reinforcing a wider stance.

BMW is also expanding personalisation options significantly. Through its Individual programme, buyers can choose from more than 500 exterior colour combinations, including a new dual-finish paint concept that combines matte and metallic surfaces — a first for the brand.

Inside, the 7 Series takes a more minimalist approach while introducing a major overhaul in digital interfaces.

A new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, powered by BMW Operating System X, forms the backbone of the cabin experience. This includes a full-width head-up projection display, a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, and — for the first time — a standard front passenger display.

Rear-seat passengers are also catered for with an upgraded 31.3-inch Theatre Screen featuring 8K resolution, now paired with Dolby Atmos audio and the addition of video conferencing capability.

Material quality remains a key focus, with a mix of leather, metal, and glass elements, alongside optional vegan and cashmere-based interior trims.

Under the skin, BMW has equipped the new 7 Series with adaptive two-axle air suspension as standard, along with Integral Active Steering to improve manoeuvrability and high-speed stability.

An optional Adaptive Chassis Control Professional package adds active roll stabilisation, further enhancing both ride comfort and handling precision.

The model also introduces new software-driven features, including AI-assisted tyre monitoring and updated braking and traction systems.

The new 7 Series will be offered with both fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with electric variants taking priority at launch.

The BMW i7 line-up includes three models:

  • i7 50 xDrive: 455 hp, up to 452 miles (WLTP) range
  • i7 60 xDrive: 544 hp, up to 451 miles
  • i7 M70 xDrive: 680 hp, 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds

All variants feature updated Gen6 battery technology, improving both energy density and charging performance. Maximum DC charging has been increased to 250 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in approximately 28 minutes.

Plug-in hybrid models — the 750e xDrive and M760e xDrive — will follow in November 2026, combining a revised straight-six petrol engine with an electric motor for improved performance and efficiency.

BMW 7 Series

BMW has also expanded the 7 Series’ digital ecosystem. BMW Operating System X enables over-the-air updates, a broader app ecosystem, and enhanced personalisation via BMW ID profiles.

Voice control has been upgraded with the latest BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, now enhanced with AI capabilities for more natural interaction.

BMW 7 Series

On the safety front, the 7 Series introduces updated Level 2 driver assistance systems, including Motorway Assistant for hands-free driving at highway speeds (where permitted), as well as improved urban driving support through City Assistant.

BMW says sustainability has been a key focus in the development of the new 7 Series. The latest battery cells use a higher proportion of recycled materials, while production processes rely more heavily on renewable energy.

BMW 7 Series

That being said, all variants of the new 7 Series will be produced at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, which remains the lead facility for the brand’s luxury models. The model is scheduled to go on sale in various markets from September 2026.
