More people are buying Isuzu D-Max in Malaysia now

Isuzu D-Max

The Isuzu D-Max has secured the No. 2 position in Malaysia’s competitive pickup truck segment for 2025, recording its highest-ever market share amid rising demand for fuel-efficient and durable commercial vehicles.

According to Isuzu Malaysia, the brand captured 18.3% of the pickup market in the first quarter of 2025—up significantly from 14.0% during the same period last year. This growth comes despite a national shift in sentiment toward diesel-powered vehicles, following a steep hike in diesel fuel prices in Peninsular Malaysia.

Isuzu Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Kenkichi Sogo attributes the strong performance to the D-Max’s combination of low running costs, proven reliability, and growing awareness of its capabilities among Malaysian buyers. “More drivers are recognising the value proposition of the D-Max—not just for work, but also for daily use and leisure,” he said.

The best-selling variants—1.9L 4×4 Auto Premium, 1.9L 4×4 Auto Standard, and 1.9L 4×2 Auto Plus—collectively accounted for 72.7% of total D-Max sales. All three models are powered by Isuzu’s efficient 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine. Two of these variants recently earned a place in the Malaysian Book of Records after completing a 2,004-kilometre journey on a single tank of fuel.

Isuzu continues to dominate in East Malaysia, holding a 28.4% market share in states like Sabah. Meanwhile, growth in Peninsular Malaysia has been more pronounced, with market share increasing from 12.1% in 2024 to 17.1% in 2025.

The D-Max is offered with a five-year warranty and carries an annual road tax of under RM400 in Peninsular Malaysia, adding to its appeal as a cost-effective vehicle in a rising-cost environment.

That being said, Isuzu Malaysia announced that it expects the upward trend to continue throughout the year.
