The new MG ZS compact SUV comes in turbo petrol and hybrid flavours, with up to 215 PS, 4.7L/100km fuel consumption and launch rewards worth RM6,000.
SAIC Motor Malaysia has officially launched the locally assembled MG ZS in Malaysia, offering two powertrain choices: the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo and MG ZS Hybrid+. Prices start at RM103,900 and RM109,900 respectively, excluding insurance and applicable to Peninsular Malaysia.
The new compact SUV is available with early-bird rewards worth RM3,000 and five years of free maintenance. Until 31 December 2026, buyers of the MG ZS Hybrid+ will also receive an additional RM3,000 year-end reward, while the 1.5 Turbo gets access to special financing packages through Hong Leong Bank and Bank Rakyat.
For the first 3,000 customers, both variants come with an upgraded seven-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty. The hybrid battery is covered by an eight-year or 160,000km warranty.
Two powertrains, two different approaches
The MG ZS 1.5 Turbo is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection and an all-aluminium construction. It produces 170 PS and 275 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed high-performance CVT designed to handle torque loads of up to 325 Nm.
Fuel consumption is rated at 6.9 litres per 100km, with a 55-litre fuel tank.
Meanwhile, the MG ZS Hybrid+ combines a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery.
The hybrid system delivers a combined output of 215 PS and 465 Nm, paired with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds while returning a claimed fuel consumption figure of 4.7 litres per 100km.
With a 41-litre fuel tank, the Hybrid+ offers a claimed driving range of up to 870km. It also features eight propulsion modes and can operate in electric-only mode at speeds of up to 80km/h under suitable conditions, without requiring external charging.
Compact SUV with a practical cabin
Measuring 4,430mm long and 1,818mm wide, the MG ZS features a bold exterior design with Connected Hunter Eyes headlights, black grille accents, aerodynamic body sculpting, rear LED taillights, a rear spoiler and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Both variants are available in four colours: Flare Red, Silver, Andes Grey and York White.
Inside, the MG ZS gets an all-black cabin with perforated leatherette seats and ventilation for both front seats. Equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
MG also claims 30 storage compartments throughout the cabin, alongside generous headroom and legroom.
Boot capacity stands at 443 litres, expanding to 1,457 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Both variants also feature Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes, with suspension systems incorporating ultra-high-stiffness, lightweight materials to balance ride comfort and handling.
Safety and connectivity
The MG ZS has earned a five-star ANCAP safety rating and comes equipped with MG PILOT Driver Safety Technology, featuring 16 driver assistance functions. These include Intelligent Headlight Control and Intelligent Cruise Control.
MG iSMART connectivity also allows owners to remotely access and control selected vehicle functions through their smartphones, including keyless entry.
