Chery Malaysia has reached a major milestone in its local journey, having sold more than 30,000 vehicles in under three years since entering the Malaysian market.

The achievement underlines the brand’s rapid rise and growing acceptance among local buyers, positioning Chery as one of the fastest-expanding automotive players in the country.

By the end of last year, Chery Malaysia had delivered a cumulative total of 30,073 vehicles. The momentum began shortly after its market re-entry in 2023, when the brand recorded 4,501 units sold between June and December alone. Sales continued to accelerate in the following years, culminating in a strong performance last year with 12,930 vehicles delivered nationwide.

Chery’s growth in Malaysia has been closely tied to the steady expansion of its product portfolio, which mirrors the brand’s broader global strategy. The journey began with internal combustion engine (ICE) models such as the OMODA 5 and TIGGO 8 PRO, before moving decisively into electrified mobility.

In March 2024, Chery entered the electric vehicle space with the introduction of the OMODA E5. This was followed by the rapid expansion of the TIGGO range, including the TIGGO 7 PRO, TIGGO CROSS Turbo and TIGGO CROSS Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).

The brand later strengthened its electrification push with the launch of plug-in hybrid models, namely the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV.

A key contributor to the brand’s success has been the OMODA 5, launched in 2023, which quickly emerged as Chery Malaysia’s best-selling model and played a central role in establishing the brand’s foothold in the local market.

Building on this foundation, the TIGGO series was introduced to cater to a wider spectrum of buyers, from young families to customers seeking larger, more versatile SUVs.

Initially offered with ICE powertrains, the range rapidly evolved to include HEV and PHEV variants within the same year, powered by Chery’s Super Hybrid (CSH) technology. Today, the TIGGO line-up comprises six models and is expected to remain a key sales driver in 2025 as Malaysian buyers increasingly shift toward new energy vehicles.

Chery Malaysia’s presence extends beyond showroom performance, with the brand actively involved in community-focused initiatives. Following the fire incident in Putra Heights, Selangor, Chery provided loan vehicles to 50 affected households within the same week, enabling families to manage daily mobility needs, relocate temporarily and transport personal belongings during the recovery period.

The swift response was widely recognised as a practical and timely form of assistance, reflecting the brand’s commitment to supporting local communities during times of need.

The company has also contributed to national development through its involvement with the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Through this partnership, Chery supports programmes aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s sports ecosystem, including funding for major sporting events, athlete participation and youth development initiatives.

Its involvement in events such as the Asian Youth Para Games and the Paris Olympic Games highlights the brand’s emphasis on inclusivity and athlete empowerment.

In addition, Chery Malaysia has partnered with the Belia Mahir Project to help bridge the gap between education and employment by offering skilled graduates opportunities within the automotive industry.

Looking ahead, Chery Malaysia’s long-term plans are anchored by the upcoming Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, Selangor. The RM2.2 billion facility, spanning more than 200 acres, is set to enhance local manufacturing capabilities, increase production capacity and create wider economic opportunities.

The industrial park is expected to play a key role in Chery’s regional strategy, with the first phase scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026.

On the international front, Chery Group closed 2025 with total vehicle sales of 2.806 million units, representing a 7.8 percent year-on-year increase. The company retained its position as China’s leading automotive exporter, with 1.344 million vehicles shipped overseas.

The Group recorded significant gains across total sales, exports, new energy vehicle performance and quality recognition. These results were driven by progress in five strategic areas, including electrified powertrains, global expansion, strategic partnerships and innovation in intelligent systems and next-generation technologies.

With growing global visibility, reflected in its Fortune Global 500 ranking and successful Hong Kong listing, Chery enters 2026 focused on sustainable growth while continuing to deliver technology-driven value to customers worldwide.
