Brunei has become the first overseas market to receive the all-new Proton X50, marking another milestone in Proton’s export-led growth strategy as it enters 2026.

Unveiled in Bandar Seri Begawan, the launch reinforces Brunei’s role as one of Proton’s most established right-hand-drive export markets. The event was attended by His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Aini Antan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, alongside Wan Wei, Vice President of Proton International Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (PICSB), Tan Kah Boon, Chairman of PAD Motors Sdn. Bhd., and Hambali bin Pehin Salleh, Managing Partner of PAD Motors.

PICSB closed 2025 with total export volumes of 6,000 units, underlining steady international demand. The Proton X50 was a key contributor, accounting for 29 percent of overall exports. In Brunei specifically, the X50 made up 38 percent of Proton’s total sales, cementing its position as one of the brand’s strongest performers in the market.

Brunei is expected to remain a core pillar of PICSB’s export plans, with a sales target of 1,000 units this year. Growth will be driven by refreshed and feature-enhanced models such as the all-new X50, with the next-generation Proton Saga also slated for future introduction.

The latest Proton X50 brings comprehensive updates aimed at international customers. It features refreshed exterior styling, a more refined cabin, and enhanced safety and driver-assistance technologies while retaining Proton’s focus on performance, comfort, and value.

Power comes from a new i-GT 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque, paired with an optimised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Exterior updates include a revised front fascia, full LED headlamps, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a sporty rear spoiler with quad exhaust outlets. Inside, the cabin gains a floating floor console, 72-colour rhythmic ambient lighting, and leatherette upholstery.

Safety equipment includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, up to 12 parking sensors, a 360-degree HD camera with a 180-degree transparent undercarriage view, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and six SRS airbags.

For Brunei, the all-new Proton X50 is offered in three variants: X50 Executive priced at B$27,499, X50 Premium at B$31,500, and X50 Flagship at B$34,500. Early buyers can enjoy a B$1,500 discount for the first 100 customers. The package also includes a five-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and six free labour services.

According to Wan Wei, Brunei’s selection as the first export market for the new X50 reflects Proton’s confidence in the country and its long-standing partnership with PAD Motors. He added that export markets will continue to play a critical role in Proton’s long-term plan to reach 330,000 units in annual sales by 2030, with 30 percent contributed by overseas markets.

As Proton advances its international expansion, the all-new X50 serves as a key model in strengthening regional presence and reinforcing the brand’s competitiveness beyond Malaysia.
