Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially introduced the all-new Volkswagen Tayron, a locally-assembled seven-seat SUV positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg.
Built at Volkswagen’s Pekan assembly plant, the Tayron arrives with two variants – the fuel-efficient Elegance and the performance-oriented R-Line.

The Tayron Elegance is now on sale at RM189,890, while the Tayron R-Line is currently being previewed with an estimated price of RM259,000 to RM269,000. Buyers who opt for the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) will pay RM199,990 for the Elegance, which includes five years of free maintenance, five years of warranty, and five years of roadside assistance.

To celebrate Malaysia’s 69th Merdeka anniversary, Volkswagen is offering an exclusive introductory package for the first 69 Tayron owners. The promotion includes seven years of free maintenance, complimentary personal accident and car key protection, as well as an opportunity to win a three-day, two-night luxury getaway.
Two Engines
The Tayron Elegance is powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid engine producing 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission.

The powertrain incorporates a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus), allowing two cylinders to deactivate under light loads to improve fuel efficiency. Energy recuperation during braking and coasting further reduces fuel consumption.

Meanwhile, the Tayron R-Line targets buyers looking for stronger performance. It features a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine delivering 265 PS and 400 Nm, complemented by Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system for improved traction and stability.

Like the Elegance, it also comes with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and Volkswagen’s Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro) adaptive suspension.
Bigger, More Practical, More Premium

Designed as a genuine family SUV, the Tayron offers a flexible seven-seat configuration with up to 1,905 litres of luggage capacity when the second and third rows are folded. The second-row seats split 40:20:40, while the third row folds 50:50, making it easy to balance passengers and cargo.

Inside, both variants feature Volkswagen’s latest cabin design with a steering-column-mounted gear selector that frees up storage space on the centre console. Occupants also benefit from Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front seats offering 12-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and a 10-air-cushion massage function.

Audio systems differ between variants. The Elegance comes with an eight-speaker setup, while the R-Line upgrades to a 700-watt Harman Kardon premium sound system with 10 speakers, a subwoofer and a 16-channel digital amplifier.
Latest Volkswagen Digital Experience

Technology is another major highlight. The Elegance receives a 12.9-inch Discover infotainment display, while the R-Line upgrades to a 15-inch Discover Pro Max touchscreen. Both run Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 software and support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other standard features include a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, IDA voice assistant, wireless smartphone connectivity, multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a rotary multifunction controller for drive modes, ambient lighting and audio settings. The R-Line also adds a head-up display.
Safety

Safety remains one of the Tayron’s strongest selling points. The SUV has earned a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, achieving scores of 87% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 83% for vulnerable road users and 80% for safety assistance.

Both variants are equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Emergency Assist, Park Assist Plus and a Driver Attention Monitor.

The Tayron also comes with nine airbags, including a front-centre airbag that helps reduce injuries between the driver and front passenger during a side impact.
