GWM Malaysia has expanded its SUV line-up with the launch of the new GWM TANK 300 HEV, bringing hybrid power to its body-on-frame off-roader.
Priced at RM259,800 (on-the-road, without insurance), the new variant joins the existing TANK 300 range while retaining the model’s core off-road capabilities.
The TANK 300 HEV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 245 PS and 380 Nm with an electric motor delivering 106 PS and 268 Nm. Combined system output stands at 346 PS and 648 Nm, making it the most powerful TANK 300 variant available in Malaysia.
According to GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah, the introduction of the hybrid variant gives Malaysian buyers an additional powertrain option while preserving the SUV’s authentic off-road character.
“The introduction of the GWM TANK 300 HEV reflects our commitment to offering Malaysians greater choice. It combines hybrid efficiency and refined comfort while staying true to TANK’s authentic, purpose-built off-road capability,” he said.
Despite the addition of hybrid technology, the TANK 300 HEV retains its body-on-frame ladder chassis construction and four-wheel-drive system. Off-road hardware includes a full-time on-demand 4WD system, 4L low-range transfer case, Crawl Control, Tank Turn Assist and multiple terrain modes comprising Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand and 4L.
GWM says the vehicle’s frame is constructed using 99 per cent high-strength steel, with torsional rigidity rated at 284.5 kN·m/rad to enhance durability and stability across challenging terrain.
Inside, the TANK 300 HEV comes equipped with Nappa leather upholstery, a nine-speaker Infinity premium sound system and an upgraded infotainment suite. The hybrid variant also introduces several exclusive convenience features, including smartphone-based vehicle monitoring and remote control functions.
Through the GWM mobile app, owners can remotely check vehicle status, including tyre pressure, fuel level, battery level and vehicle location, while also controlling functions such as the air-conditioning system, seat ventilation and sunroof.
The TANK 300 HEV is also equipped with Auto Parking Assist, allowing the vehicle to automatically perform parking manoeuvres with minimal driver intervention.
Safety equipment includes a full suite of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), comprising Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Junction Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Centering, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. A 360-degree camera system and Hill Descent Control are also standard.
Customers can choose from three exterior colours: Crystal Black, Pearl White and the new HEV-exclusive Sand Beige.
To support the launch, GWM Malaysia is offering five years of free scheduled maintenance, covering both labour and parts. Buyers will also receive five years of complimentary Level 2 vehicle telematics services.
Warranty coverage includes a lifetime engine and transmission warranty for first-hand private owners, an eight-year or 180,000 km battery warranty, and a six-year unlimited-mileage vehicle and HEV system warranty.
Existing GWM owners are eligible for an exclusive RM3,000 loyalty rebate. That being said, the GWM TANK 300 HEV is now available at selected GWM dealerships nationwide.
