PROTON has officially introduced its first electric vehicle, the e.MAS 7, to the Trinidad and Tobago market, marking the model’s second overseas launch following its debut in Nepal three months earlier. Originally unveiled in Malaysia in December last year, the e.MAS 7 has rapidly climbed the ranks to become PROTON’s third most-exported model, trailing only the Proton Saga and X50.

The launch event, held in the capital city of Port of Spain, was officiated by Jean-Marc Mouttet, Sector Head at ANSA Motors Limited, and Alexander Sabga, General Manager of New Business Development at ANSA McAL Ltd. ANSA Motors has served as PROTON’s official distributor in the Caribbean nation since 2013.

Coinciding with the launch, ANSA Motors also opened a new electric vehicle showroom at The City of Grand Bazaar. This state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance customer experience by offering a hands-on introduction to EV technology, showcasing PROTON’s EV lineup, and providing specialised aftersales support.

This latest development builds on the momentum from the introduction of the Proton X50 and X90 to Trinidad and Tobago in 2023. To date, 481 PROTON vehicles have been exported to the country, including 271 X50s, 141 X90s, and 44 units of the Saga. The strong reception of these models has laid the foundation for PROTON’s electric ambitions in the market.

The Proton e.MAS 7 will be available in its Premium variant, featuring a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating and impressive performance, including a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 7.1 seconds. The vehicle is powered by a 12-in-1 electric drive unit delivering 160 kW and 320 Nm of torque. Its 60.22 kWh Aegis Short Blade battery supports a WLTP-rated range of 410 km, aligning well with local driving needs.

“This launch represents a significant milestone for PROTON as we continue to expand our international presence and lead EV adoption in our export markets,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Director of PROTON’s International Sales Division. “We’re proud to bring the e.MAS 7 to Trinidad and Tobago and look forward to introducing it in additional markets such as Mauritius and Singapore later this year.”
