UMW Toyota Motor has taken a significant step forward in shaping Malaysia’s future talent pipeline with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to broaden the scope of its long-standing Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP).
The MoU signing ceremony, held at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), and private academic institutions. The initiative underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem across the country.
First introduced in 1991, T-TEP has grown from a modest partnership with five institutions to a nationwide program now embedded in 25 educational establishments. Each institution integrates Toyota’s industry-developed training modules and gains access to advanced automotive technologies, including hybrid and electric engine simulators.

This expansion is part of UMW Toyota’s strategy to align automotive education with the evolving demands of the mobility sector. To date, the company has invested nearly RM20 million into T-TEP, helping to train and graduate around 7,000 skilled individuals nationwide.
“Through T-TEP, we’re not just preparing students for jobs—we’re nurturing the next generation of automotive professionals equipped with practical experience and leadership potential,” said Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain, Executive Director of UMW Toyota Motor. “This initiative supports Malaysia’s vision for a high-income, future-ready workforce as outlined in the National TVET Policy 2030.”
With over 100 service centres and three manufacturing facilities throughout Malaysia, UMW Toyota continues to offer students hands-on training opportunities that mirror the innovation and standards of the global automotive industry.
More than an educational platform, T-TEP reflects Toyota’s global philosophy of “Move Your World” by empowering individuals through knowledge and opportunity.
“T-TEP is a testament to our belief that real progress is people-driven,” said Datuk Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor. “We are investing in education because we believe that empowering individuals to succeed also empowers communities and drives national development.”
The expanded T-TEP program reinforces UMW Toyota Motor’s role as a committed partner in national development, working to cultivate a technically skilled, inclusive, and future-focused workforce for Malaysia.
