Following the announcement of a new generation of the brand’s purely electric small cars, another decision has now been made by MINI – The MINI Convertible will live on.
According to the company, the development of a successor to the MINI Convertible is a done deal. It is said that the new model is scheduled to be unveiled in 2025.
Large fan base
“The MINI Convertible has a large and particularly loyal fan base. This is also shown by the great demand for the latest, freshly updated model,” says Bernd Körber, Head of the MINI brand.
The clear and reduced design expresses the vehicle’s extravagant charisma more intensively than ever – especially with the body paint in the new Zesty Yellow variant available exclusively for the MINI Convertible.
In addition, the unmistakable design features of the open-top MINI are showcased particularly effectively. The hexagonal radiator grille is larger than ever, the standard LED headlights have been redesigned as have the Side Scuttles, the black wheel arch surrounds have been given new contours, and the rear lights in the striking Union Jack design are now standard equipment
With its fresh look, new standard and optional equipment and innovative operating system, the MINI Convertible continues a success story that began some three decades ago.
Big success in short period
After the prototype at the British Motor Show in Birmingham in 1992 had already caused enthusiastic reactions from the public, a convertible version was added to the classic Mini for the first time.
And even after the relaunch of the brand, fans did not have to do without open-top driving fun in typical MINI style.
Best-selling convertible in the world?
Since 2004, the combination of go-kart feeling and open-air fun has thrilled discerning target groups all over the world. At times, MINI’s open-top four-seater was the best-selling convertible in the world.
The current MINI Convertible is not only the original in its vehicle class, but also a true one-off as the only open-top model in the premium small car segment.
Three equally powerful and efficient engines with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology ensure driving pleasure made to measure. The MINI John Cooper Works Convertible, with its 170 kW/231 hp engine, makes the wind blow even more powerfully.

Auto Bavaria Penang, which recently emerged as the winner of the BMW Excellence Club in the Platinum Category in 2019, has introduced its first-ever dedicated BMW and MINI Service Fast Lane Centre in Malaysia.
Located along Jalan Sungai Pinang in Penang, the new stand-alone centre from Auto Bavaria Penang will complement the services provided by its main facility located along Jalan Anson, Penang. The dedicated maintenance service and repair facility for BMW and MINI vehicles endeavours to get customers back on the road in the shortest time possible.
Quick service and repairs
The new 30,000sq ft BMW & MINI Service Fast Lane Centre is fully air-conditioned with a premium customer lounge, six service bays, and two RATC (Reception at the Car) bays. The centre specialises solely on quick service and repairs with emphasis on regular vehicle maintenance, wear and tear repairs, tyre replacement, cosmetic repairs and more, for better efficiency and time optimisation.
According to Sime Darby Auto Bavaria’s Managing Director, Mr Vi Thim Juan, the Service Fast Lane concept aims to help customers optimise their time while getting the necessary service and repairs for their cars. The cost of service or repair as well as the duration needed to complete the service will be discussed in advance when a customer calls to book for the Service Fast Lane.
“Our Service Fast Lane Centre is designed to fit customers’ routine with minimal interruption. Service appointment scheduling is also flexible, allowing customers to bring in their cars at a time most convenient to them. With Service Fast Lane, service and repairs are done in a fraction of the time while customers sip their coffee and relax at our lounge,” said Vi.
Customers can be assured of receiving cost estimates, including itemised costs for parts and labour beforehand, as Auto Bavaria continues to deliver on its promise of price transparency for customers to make informed decisions about the maintenance of their vehicles.

Sime Darby Motors clocked another milestone with the official launch of its automotive facility, Sime Darby Motors City in Ara Damansara earlier this week.
Touted as the largest automotive complex in Southeast Asia, Sime Darby Motors City spans across 8.6 acres with an overall built-up area of 1.3 million square feet over eight levels.
Six brands under one roof
The complex houses six flagship centres featuring ten flagship brands represented by Sime Darby Motors in Malaysia, namely BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, MINI, Motorrad, Porsche and Volvo. It also has an indoor facility capable of housing close to 100 vehicles under Sime Darby Motors’ pre-owned car business Sime Darby Auto Selection.
Integrated with the latest technologies to enrich the overall customer experience at every touch point, the facility boasts almost 200 service bays, approximately 700 customer parking and electric vehicle (EV) charging bays and the capacity to display more than 180 vehicles.
Supporting the facility are approximately 60 Auto Bavaria technicians for BMW, MINI and Motorrad and over 110 certified technicians. This includes technicians who hold the highest level of certification by the principal brands, including the Zertifizierter Porsche Techniker Gold Certification which is streamlined for Porsche technicians worldwide. Brands like Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar and Land Rover also have certifications with the highest being trained as Master Technicians.
Fully digital infrastructure
At the heart of the facility’s digital infrastructure is its Vehicle Tracking Management system which utilises a camera-based parking guide and customisable signages to ensure a higher level of guidance, security and convenience for the customer.
It also allows for quicker collection of vehicles upon completion of service. Internally, the facility’s digitalised infrastructure communicates the status of each vehicle in real-time, ensuring greater efficiencies are achieved.
IoT-powered Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have also been installed, as part of a contactless self-check-in system, which enables customers’ appointment data to be accessed, upon their arrival.
Concurrently, a service advisor will be alerted and automatically assigned to the customer, allowing for a seamless experience. The deployment of these technologies will be rolled out progressively throughout Sime Darby Motors City.
Once in the showroom, customers can opt for a contactless self-check-in which utilises a QR code system. This will allow customers to be placed immediately in the queue without having to wait to be attended to, allowing for a fuss-free service experience. The introduction of this check-in system will be introduced across all brands at Sime Darby Motors City.
To support these enhancements to the after-sales experience, Sime Darby Motors has also digitalised the business for its sales representatives. This includes the introduction of a mobile application, which has enabled sales representatives to be connected anytime and anywhere with real-time data to better serve customers. With the mobile application, they can now populate and print application forms wirelessly, minimising steps in the administrative process and reducing customers’ waiting time.
Sime Darby Motors City also welcomes partners from our mobility collaborations; SOCAR, Malaysia’s leading car-sharing network and myTukar, Malaysia’s fastest growing online used car trading platform. The complex will have designated parking bays for SOCAR vehicles – ideal for customers dropping off their vehicles for service, and will be a showcase centre for myTukar trade-in vehicles, in collaboration with Sime Darby Auto Selection.
The facility is equipped with specialised EV-certified technicians and designated areas for EV charging, storage and repairs as well, which are currently available at Auto Bavaria, Auto Hyundai, Auto Performance and Swedish Auto.
And then we have Sime Darby Auto Performance which houses a high speed EV charging station that is capable of delivering a maximum of 175 kW, able to provide a near-full charge within 36 minutes, which is at least eight times faster than the fastest Alternating Current (AC) charger available at 22 kW.
The complex is a Green Building Index (GBI) certified facility built with sustainability in mind and incorporates technologies to cultivate a paperless organisational culture.
Grand Launch Weekend

BMW Group Malaysia today introduced the New My BMW App and the New MINI App to enable greater digital personalisation of the Premium Ownership Experience. The new applications will replace the BMW and MINI Connected Apps that are currently in use.
The New My BMW App and the New MINI App both feature a new-look design that is intuitive, offering a simplified user experience and services that will better support individual electromobility in Malaysia.
Now available in over 50 markets worldwide, the new applications arrive with a comprehensive range of functions to make the driver – vehicle interaction more seamless than ever before.
The new applications provide immediate access and management of the vehicle status, with direct contact to the BMW or MINI service centre of choice. The new applications also allow users the convenience of controlling their BMW or MINI vehicle remotely, as well as a range of comprehensive on-the-go navigation and e-mobility services.
The minimalist three-tab structure of the New My BMW App and New MINI App features the Vehicle, Map and Home tabs. The first tab offers access to remote vehicle services that include Active Charging, Vehicle Finder, Remote Lock and Unlock with Climate Charge and the Climate Timer. Exclusive features in the New My BMW App also include the Remote Engine Start and Flashlights, as well as Remote Software Upgrades to ensure users are always up-to-date.
Additionally, users can manage their vehicle service and maintenance requirements via the application – including service and recall alerts, and online appointment scheduling. In an event of a problem, the BMW and MINI Roadside Assistance can also be reached via the new applications. The Driver’s Guide is also available for both BMW and MINI owners in their respective new applications – fully digital and accessible from anywhere, at any time.
E-mobility features available under the Vehicle tab in the New My BMW App and New MINI App include an improved overview of the Fuel/Battery Level, Range and Charging Status, alongside the Charging History feature – which is an all-new function on both applications. The vehicle pre-conditioning function is also available as standard for enhanced comfort.
The Map tab keeps the user informed on the location and the destination along the way, with features such as the Map Search, and Point of Interests (POIs) with all-new e-mobility features that include the Nearby Parking and Charging Spots, Charging Station Details, and reachable POIs.
Users can now also send a destination to the vehicle as well as share location from an external application. For electrified vehicle owners, the new Range Circle on Map helps them identify destinations that can be reached within the current range, based on the current location.
BMW and MINI owners will also be able to explore the Message Center function in the new applications, alongside a profile personalisation feature – where users can add a personalised image to their driver profile. Exclusive to the New My BMW App, the Connected Drive Store can also be accessed in-app, along with the Discover BMW feature.
Users with selected BMW models will also be able to pair their BMW Digital Key with the New My BMW App – currently available on smartphones running iOS only. To use the BMW Digital Key feature via an iPhone, users will need to activate Connected Drive Services and the BMW vehicle must be connected to a BMW ID.
Bye bye BMW Connected
The New My BMW App and New MINI App will completely replace the BMW Connected and MINI Connected applications respectively by July this year. Additionally, users who are already registered under the BMW and MINI Connected applications will not need to register again to sign into the New My BMW App and the New MINI App.
The new applications are now available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Both the New MINI Cooper S Countryman and the New MINI Cooper SE Countryman now feature the MINI ALL4 Exterior Optic. The differentiated front and rear bumpers with decorative elements and sump guard in aluminium matt provide a rugged look to the new variants.
The New MINI Countryman variants also feature auto LED headlights with cornering lights, bonnet stripes, roof rails and side sills.The Union Jack Rear Light now represents an abstract interpretation of the Union Jack, with a more block-designed triangular surface, resulting in stronger lighting.
The New MINI Cooper S Countryman is equipped with 19” MINI Turnstile Spoke with Run Flat Tyres while the MINI Cooper SE Countryman is equipped with the 19” MINI Yours British Spoke with Run Flat Tyres.
Both variants also feature the Piano Black Exterior Optic that ensures a particularly striking appearance. The headlight surrounds, rear lights, radiator grille and side scuttles are finished in high-gloss black instead of chrome, as are the door handles and the model lettering on the tailgate.
Owners can also enjoy the convenience of Comfort Access with Easy Opener, as well as the automatic tailgate operation.
Inside, both variants feature the MINI Yours Illuminated cockpit in Shaded Silver, conveying a stylish yet sporty flair by combining the illuminated cockpit bezel in Shaded Silver with the Dark Silver door bezels and Hazy Grey.
The stylish interior is further amplified with Satellite Grey Headliner and Leather Cross Punch in Carbon Black.
Both variants also feature the MINI Yours Walknappa Leather Steering, which is a first for the MINI Cooper S Countryman. A signature union jack insignia is also featured at the bottom of the steering wheel.
For the first time, the New MINI Cooper S Countryman and the New MINI Cooper SE Countryman features a 5” digital instrument cluster strategically placed behind the steering wheel to inform the driver of speed, fuel level, mileage, temperature and navigation instructions.
The updated 8.8” touchscreen display with navigation offers the vehicle a refined surface look, with the audio control panel, hazard light buttons and driver assistance systems seamlessly integrated into its circular control unit.
For a focused driving experience, owners can also take advantage of the Head Up Display. In-car entertainment comes in the form of a 12-speaker Harman Kardon HiFi Loudspeaker System. Both variants now include Driving Assistant system as standard.
A 2-litre MINI TwinPower Turbo engine sits at the heart of the MINI Cooper S Countryman, enabling the vehicle to produce 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque to achieve a century sprint in 7.5 seconds. This MINI variant is capable of a top speed of 226 km/h.
Paired with a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Sports Automatic Transmission, the vehicle can achieve extremely fast gear change with a high degree of shift comfort and optimised efficiency.

The plug-in hybrid is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. The top speed of the MINI Cooper SE Countryman is 194 km/h.
The New MINI Cooper SE Countryman features the latest eDrive technology which includes a high-voltage lithium battery with a gross energy content of 10 kWh, providing the new plug-in hybrid a maximum electrically powered range of 48 kilometres.
Additionally, the ALL4 all-wheel drive system provides a noticeable boost in terms of traction, driving stability and agility. Charging the Cooper SE Countryman
The New MINI Cooper SE Countryman can be charged at home by connecting it to a power socket via the home charging cable, which comes standard with the vehicle. Depending on the voltage of the household power grid, it takes approximately 5 hours @ 2.3kW to charge from 0-100%.
Alternatively, the plug-in hybrid vehicle can be charged in one of over 300 public charging facilities across Malaysia, using the public charging cable. The 0-100% charging time with the Public Charging Station is approximately 3 hours 15 minutes @ 3.7kW.
MINI Malaysia will provide every MINI Cooper SE Countryman owner with a complimentary MINI Public Charging Cable and a one-year free subscription of unlimited charging at all ChargEV stations nationwide.

The MINI Countryman SE All4 PHEV
Powering the MINI Countryman SE All4 PHEV is a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 134 hp and 220 Nm of torque, paired to a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Complementing the engine and gearbox is a rear-mounted electric motor producing 87 hp and 165 Nm of torque.
Together, the engine and electric motor make a combined system output of 224 PS and 385 Nm of torque, enabling the Countryman SE to do the century sprint in 6.8 seconds, which is actually quicker than the MINI Cooper S that does it in 7.4 seconds. Top speed stands at 198 km/h.
The MINI Countryman SE also features the advanced MINI All-Wheel-Drive System that provides optimal grip and maximum enjoyment for every ride, as well as the eDrive mode that allows drivers to select either electric, combustion engine or the hybrid driving mode to provide a more efficient travelling experience.

MINI has unveiled yet another unique version of the Countryman called the MINI Countryman Boardwalk, featuring a few cool cosmetic enhancements.
The list begins with the Deep Laguna metallic exterior paint, which was available only for the MINI Convertible Sidewalk edition earlier. However, due to popular demand, the colour has been made available for the Countryman as well, through the Boardwalk edition.
Complementing the colour is the black contrast finish on the roof as well as the exterior mirror caps. Another unique feature is the design of the Countryman Boardwalk’s emblem.

MINI is already making great strides when it comes to electric mobility. The MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 plug-in hybrid model (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.7 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.0 – 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 45 – 40 g/km) led to five percent of the brand’s total sales being electrified. Following the highly successful launch of the all-electric MINI Cooper SE (fuel consumption combined: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.8 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km), this share doubled to around ten per cent within just a few months. Based on this experience, and looking ahead to future technology, MINI is now preparing the next step in the development of electric John Cooper Works models.

The current focus on the development of a MINI John Cooper Works Electric demonstrates just how important electric mobility is in terms of the brand’s future direction – the goal is a unique blend of sustainability, performance and passion. “John Cooper Works models with conventional combustion engines will still continue to have an important role to play, to make sure we’re addressing the wishes and needs of performance enthusiasts all around the world,” says Bernd Körber. “With this new focus on electric performance, we’re also creating the opportunity to sharpen the distinctive profile of the John Cooper Works brand more than ever before.”
