Proton e.MAS 5 Crosses More than 5,000 Deliveries in Malaysia

Electric mobility is gaining momentum in Malaysia, and Proton e.MAS is currently leading that charge. The EV brand continues to hold the No.1 position in the country’s electric vehicle segment while its entry-level model, the Proton e.MAS 5, has already surpassed 5,000 deliveries just two months after launch.

In February 2026 alone, Proton e.MAS recorded total sales of 1,928 units, bringing its year-to-date tally to 5,219 vehicles including exports. The e.MAS 5 accounted for the bulk of that performance, contributing 1,562 units in February.

The numbers reinforce the model’s strong early market acceptance. Within just two months of its introduction, deliveries of the e.MAS 5 have already crossed the 5,000-unit mark—an adoption rate that outpaces most EV launches in the Malaysian market.

The compact EV has also maintained its position as the country’s best-selling electric vehicle both for February and on a year-to-date basis. Notably, its popularity has pushed it into the overall Top 5 vehicle rankings in Malaysia, where it competes directly with long-established internal combustion engine (ICE) models.

According to Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET, the rapid uptake signals a shift in consumer attitudes toward electrified vehicles.

He noted that surpassing 5,000 deliveries in such a short period demonstrates that Malaysian buyers are increasingly comfortable transitioning to electrified mobility, particularly when the product offers practical ownership benefits and strong value.

Beyond pure EVs, the company is also seeing strong interest in hybrid technology. The recently introduced Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has already generated more than 3,500 bookings within just one and a half months of launch.

For PRO-NET, the strong early response is not solely attributed to the vehicles themselves. The company has been focusing on building a broader ownership ecosystem aimed at reducing barriers to EV adoption.

This includes expanding charging accessibility, improving aftersales support and integrating digital services that simplify day-to-day vehicle ownership. The goal is to create a more seamless transition for customers who are moving from conventional petrol-powered vehicles to electrified alternatives.

Such efforts are particularly important in markets like Malaysia, where concerns around charging infrastructure, long-term ownership costs and service support remain key factors influencing EV purchasing decisions.

The e.MAS 5 plays a central role in Proton’s electrification strategy. Designed with everyday usability in mind, the compact EV is positioned as a practical second car for Malaysian households.

Its appeal lies in a balance of affordability, distinctive styling and low operating costs. For many buyers, it provides a way to reduce fuel consumption while maintaining the convenience and flexibility needed for daily commuting and short-distance urban driving.

As more households adopt EVs as secondary vehicles, models like the e.MAS 5 are helping normalise electric mobility beyond early adopters and technology enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV addresses a different segment of the market—drivers who want improved efficiency but are not yet ready to switch fully to battery electric vehicles.

The plug-in hybrid uses Proton’s EM-i hybrid technology and combines electric driving capability with the familiarity of a conventional combustion engine. This allows drivers to experience electrified driving while retaining the flexibility of petrol refuelling when necessary.

While the early numbers are encouraging, Proton e.MAS views them as the beginning of a longer electrification journey rather than a final benchmark.

For now, the rapid uptake of the e.MAS 5 and strong early bookings for the e.MAS 7 PHEV suggest that electrified vehicles are beginning to move from niche products into the mainstream of Malaysia’s automotive market.
