Michelin Malaysia has officially expanded its popular MICHELIN Primacy 5 tyre range to include sport utility vehicles (SUVs), marking a significant move in response to the growing dominance of SUVs and electrified vehicles on Malaysian roads.
The extended MICHELIN Primacy 5 line now caters to both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric SUVs, reinforcing the brand’s “Confidence Made to Last” promise. With this update, Malaysian motorists gain access to a broader selection of tyre sizes and fitments designed to meet increasingly diverse driving needs.
Since the SUV segment has seen remarkable growth over the years, rising from just 11% of total vehicle sales in 2010 to 42% in 2025, Michelin has introduced 34 new fitments for 16- to 22-inch wheels, significantly expanding the Primacy 5’s compatibility across a wide range of vehicles.
The SUV-specific variant enhances this further with reinforced sidewalls, improving stability and resistance against impacts — a key advantage for drivers frequently uneven or rough road conditions.
The tyre continues to deliver premium ride comfort, thanks to MICHELIN Silent Rib Gen-3 technology, which helps reduce cabin noise for a quieter driving experience.
Safety is also a major highlight, with the Primacy 5 offering up to 16% shorter wet braking distances, even as the tyre wears over time. This is supported by a combination of MICHELIN EverGrip, EverTread technologies, and advanced Functional Elastomers 3.0 compounds.
Longevity is addressed through MaxTouch technology, which optimises road contact and evenly distributes forces during acceleration, braking, and cornering — ultimately extending tread life without compromising safety.
Importantly, the Primacy 5 is also engineered with electrification in mind. Its tread compound reduces rolling resistance by up to 10%, helping to improve energy efficiency and extend driving range for electric vehicles.
The tyre has also received international recognition, including honours from Auto Magazine and Tekniikan Maailma, further validating its performance credentials.
In Malaysia, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 is now available in a total of 76 sizes, ranging from 16 to 22 inches, and can be purchased through authorised Michelin tyre dealers nationwide. Recommended retail pricing starts from RM467 and goes up to RM1,639, depending on size and specification.
With SUVs continuing to dominate buyer preferences and EV adoption gaining traction, this expansion positions Michelin to better meet the evolving demands of modern drivers.
