MG Motor Malaysia has officially launched the locally assembled MG MGS5 EV in Malaysia, marking a major milestone for the brand as it accelerates its expansion plans and EV ambitions in the local market.
Unveiled as part of the brand’s “2nd Anniversary: Passion To Drive” event at Bamboo Hills, the new MGS5 EV CKD is now on sale nationwide with a starting price of RM116,900, making it one of the latest affordable EV options to enter the growing Malaysian market.

The MGS5 EV is particularly significant because it is MG’s first locally assembled electric vehicle in Malaysia, with production taking place at the EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) facility in Melaka. The CKD rollout ceremony, which took place in March, signals MG’s long-term commitment towards localisation, technology transfer, and supporting Malaysia’s EV ecosystem.
Now available for viewing and test drives at all MG showrooms nationwide, the MGS5 EV also comes with a launch promotion package worth up to RM9,000.
Beyond the MGS5 EV launch, MG Motor Malaysia says it has recorded strong momentum in the first quarter of 2026. The company revealed that sales grew by 57% compared to Q4 2025 and increased 39% year-on-year against Q1 2025, reflecting growing confidence in the brand among Malaysian buyers.

The company also highlighted several milestones achieved this year, including the MG Cyberster winning the Performance Car of the Year award by MARii, further boosting MG’s image as a brand capable of delivering exciting electric vehicles with strong performance credentials.
MG has also been aggressively increasing public engagement through nationwide roadshows and test drive campaigns. Over the past few months, the brand has organised activations at locations such as Desa ParkCity, Quayside Mall, The Curve, Starling Mall, and IOI City Mall, giving Malaysians greater exposure to its growing product lineup.
Internationally, MG continues to push its technology narrative as well. During MG Tech Day in Frankfurt, the company showcased its latest MG Hybrid+ technology and unveiled what it claims to be the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state battery.

According to Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, the strong start to 2026 reflects the brand’s expanding presence and commitment to the local market.
“As we move further into 2026, we remain focused on delivering compelling products, strengthening customer engagement, and continuing to expand our footprint through innovation and localisation,” he said.
Looking ahead, MG Motor Malaysia confirmed that it will participate in the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), where the company plans to showcase its latest developments and future direction.

Adding further significance to MG’s KLIMS appearance, SAIC Motor Vice President of Global Design, Jozef Kaban, is also expected to attend and share insights into MG’s evolving global design language.
The company also revealed plans to further strengthen its dealership and aftersales network with new MG 3S centres planned for Kuantan and Rawang. At the same time, MG says it now has up to 11 body and paint facilities nationwide to support customers throughout their ownership journey.
