GWM Malaysia has launched the new WEY G9 Hi4 HEV at RM249,800, giving Malaysian buyers another option in the luxury MPV segment without the need to plug in and recharge.

The new self-charging hybrid joins the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, which has recorded 2,000 deliveries nationwide. Both versions share the same focus on premium passenger comfort, technology and seven-seat practicality, but cater to different driving preferences.

While the PHEV offers electric driving capability through external charging, the HEV combines petrol and electric power without requiring owners to change their usual refuelling routine. This could make it appealing to buyers who want hybrid efficiency but lack convenient access to home or workplace charging.

358 PS, 782 Nm and all-wheel drive

The WEY G9 Hi4 HEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine with GWM’s Hi4 intelligent electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Combined output stands at 358 PS and 782 Nm of torque.

GWM quotes fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100km under the NEDC testing cycle, alongside a claimed combined driving range of up to 845km.

The hybrid system automatically manages power delivery between the combustion engine and electric drive system, balancing performance and efficiency according to driving conditions.

The WEY G9 HEV adopts a 2+2+3 seating configuration, with second-row captain seats featuring electric leg rests and six-way adjustment. The first and second rows receive Nappa leather upholstery and ventilated seats, while the driver and second-row passengers also get 10-point massage functions.

Practicality has not been overlooked. The third-row seats can be tipped up to accommodate different cargo requirements, with boot capacity ranging from 233 litres to 1,725 litres.

To improve cabin refinement, the MPV features HALOSonic active noise cancellation, an acoustic windscreen and acoustic glass for the first and second-row doors. Three-zone automatic climate control, a CN95 cabin filter and air-quality monitoring with plasma purification are also included.

A long list of technology and safety features

The dashboard houses a 14.6-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless charger, six-zone voice recognition and a 21-speaker premium audio system are also part of the package.

RM249,800 with introductory ownership benefits

The GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV is priced at RM249,800 in Malaysia and comes with several introductory benefits, subject to terms and conditions.

These include financing rates from 0.08% through selected participating banks, RM5,000 in trade-in support and five years of free maintenance covering parts and labour, valued at RM11,200.

With the HEV joining the PHEV, GWM is widening the WEY G9’s appeal beyond buyers who want plug-in capability. The new variant combines substantial power, a feature-rich seven-seat cabin and the convenience of conventional refuelling, making it another contender for Malaysians shopping for a premium family or executive MPV.
