Dunlop Returns to the Spotlight in Malaysia with New Distributor, Bigger Expansion Plans

Dunlop is aiming for a major revival in Malaysia as Toyotsu Binter Malaysia (TBM) officially unveiled the brand’s new direction after being appointed Dunlop’s exclusive distributor in Malaysia earlier this year, signalling what could be the tyre maker’s biggest local push in years.

For many Malaysians, Dunlop is a familiar name that has existed locally since the 1960s. However, under the new partnership, the brand is now looking to strengthen its market position through expanded dealer coverage, improved product availability, and the introduction of newer tyre technologies aimed at both conventional and electric vehicles.

The move comes at a time when competition in Malaysia’s tyre market is intensifying, particularly with the rapid growth of EV adoption.

As part of its renewed strategy, Dunlop showcased the new Blue Response TG tyre at the autoshow, a product developed to improve comfort, reduce road noise, and enhance efficiency — characteristics becoming increasingly important for EV owners.

TBM said Dunlop is also expanding its EV-ready tyre lineup in Malaysia, with products such as the Sport Maxx Lux, SP Sport Maxx 060+, and the upcoming e.Sport Maxx positioned to support the growing shift towards electrified mobility.

Electric vehicles present unique demands for tyre manufacturers due to their heavier weight, instant torque delivery, and quieter cabins, all of which place greater emphasis on tyre durability, grip, and noise reduction.

According to government targets, electrified vehicles are expected to account for 15% of Malaysia’s total industry volume by 2030, making EV-focused products an increasingly important segment for tyre brands.

Beyond product expansion, TBM is also strengthening Dunlop’s nationwide distribution network. The company currently works with more than 190 authorised wholesalers, trade partners, and dealers across Malaysia, primarily in Peninsular Malaysia, with further expansion planned over the next two years.

There are also plans to explore dedicated Dunlop retail concepts as part of a longer-term strategy to improve brand visibility and customer accessibility.

Dunlop is already present in Malaysia’s OEM market as well, supplying tyres for selected models from Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, Isuzu, and Leapmotor, including Toyota’s fully electric bZ4X.

Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Managing Director Marcus Lim said the company’s immediate priorities include improving supply consistency, expanding dealer reach, and introducing Dunlop’s latest global tyre technologies into the Malaysian market.

With a stronger local distribution structure now in place and EV adoption accelerating, Dunlop appears to be positioning itself for a more aggressive return to relevance in Malaysia’s highly competitive tyre industry.
