PRO-NET, a wholly owned subsidiary of Proton Holdings, has officially delivered a fleet of electrified vehicles to Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) as part of a nationwide initiative to evaluate electric mobility for government operations.

The handover ceremony, held in Putrajaya on 11 March 2026, saw the deployment of the Proton e.MAS 5, Proton e.MAS 7, Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, along with the smart #1. This programme is designed to give policymakers and government agencies hands-on exposure to EV technology, enabling them to better assess its practicality, efficiency, and long-term viability in official use.

The initiative stems from a broader collaboration announced in August 2025, where multiple automotive brands committed to supporting the government’s push towards electrification. With real-world usage data and feedback, the programme is expected to play a key role in shaping infrastructure planning, policy direction, and EV adoption strategies in Malaysia.

At the centre of PRO-NET’s contribution are the Proton e.MAS 5 and e.MAS 7 models, both representing the brand’s latest push into the EV space. The e.MAS 5 is positioned as an accessible, compact electric vehicle tailored for urban environments, offering a balance of efficiency, manoeuvrability, and user-friendly technology—making it ideal for daily administrative duties and city commuting within government fleets.

Meanwhile, the e.MAS 7 steps up as a larger, more premium offering, delivering enhanced cabin space, improved driving range, and a more refined in-car experience. It is designed to meet the needs of longer-distance travel and higher-ranking officials, combining practicality with comfort. Complementing this is the e.MAS 7 PHEV, which introduces plug-in hybrid flexibility, providing extended range capability while easing concerns over charging infrastructure limitations.

According to PROTON Deputy CEO Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, initiatives like this are crucial in accelerating Malaysia’s transition towards sustainable mobility. By allowing decision-makers to experience EVs in real operational settings, the programme helps bridge the gap between policy and real-world implementation.

The handover underscores PRO-NET’s ongoing collaboration with public sector stakeholders, reinforcing its role in supporting Malaysia’s shift towards a low-carbon transport ecosystem while strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving EV landscape.
