Grab Malaysia has unveiled a new Women-Only Rides (Beta) service alongside a nationwide recruitment campaign aimed at expanding the number of women driver-partners on its platform.
Announced in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2026, the initiative is designed to give women passengers more choice and peace of mind when travelling, while also creating additional earning opportunities for women drivers.
Currently available via Advance Booking (AB) in the Klang Valley, the Women-Only Rides (Beta) service matches women passengers exclusively with verified women driver-partners.
The ride option is visible only to women users and was introduced in response to feedback from both passengers and driver-partners who wanted more safety-focused travel options, particularly when commuting alone.

To ensure the service remains secure, passengers must complete a one-time verification process before they can access the feature. This includes submitting identification via MyKad or passport along with a selfie for gender verification, which is cross-checked against official records.
According to Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, the new service builds on the company’s broader commitment to safety and women’s empowerment.
The initiative expands on Grab’s #SisBoleh programme launched in 2023, which focuses on creating safer and more supportive opportunities for women within the platform economy. By strengthening trust between passengers and drivers, the company hopes to create a mutually beneficial ecosystem that offers greater comfort for women riders while opening new earning avenues for women drivers.
The Women-Only Rides service also complements existing public safety measures such as women-only train coaches and parking spaces, extending similar protections to the last-mile transportation segment.
The launch took place during Grab’s International Women’s Day celebration attended by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying, alongside Grab’s senior women leadership and driver-partners. The event highlighted a shared commitment to building safer and more inclusive mobility solutions across Malaysia.
Nationwide Campaign to Recruit Women Drivers
Alongside the new ride option, Grab has also launched a Women Driver Acquisition campaign running from 8 March to 30 September 2026.
The nationwide initiative aims to grow Grab’s community of women driver-partners in anticipation of demand for the Women-Only Rides service while encouraging more women to participate in the gig economy.

New women driver-partners joining the platform during the campaign stand to receive rewards worth a combined RM100,000, including fuel vouchers and a grand prize of a Proton Saga.
Beyond incentives, the campaign seeks to build a supportive community where women can earn flexibly while feeling safer and more empowered on the road.
Both initiatives represent the next phase of the #SisBoleh programme, which is built around three core pillars: Drive With Confidence, LevelUp, and Community. Together, these pillars aim to provide women partners with safety support, professional development opportunities and a strong sense of belonging within the Grab ecosystem.
Safety Technology at the Core
The Women-Only Rides service and recruitment campaign operate on top of Grab’s existing safety infrastructure, which includes several platform-wide features designed to protect both passengers and driver-partners.

These include driver onboarding checks, which require background and health screenings before drivers are allowed to join the platform, as well as AI-powered facial verification that requires both drivers and passengers to submit live selfies before accessing the app.
Additional safety features include number masking, which protects personal contact details by replacing real phone numbers with randomised digits, and the Share My Ride function that allows real-time trip details to be shared with trusted contacts.
Grab’s SOS emergency button provides 24/7 emergency assistance, while AudioProtect enables encrypted audio recording during rides and is mandatory for late-night journeys between 10pm and 6am.
The platform also uses trip monitoring technology to detect unusual activity such as unexpected stops, route deviations or possible collisions, while telematics data from smartphone sensors helps identify risky driving behaviours and reward drivers who maintain strong safety records.
According to Grab Malaysia, these systems operate continuously in the background to create a safer ride experience, allowing women passengers and driver-partners to focus on their journey and livelihood with greater confidence.
