BMW Group Malaysia continues to strengthen its premium electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport, a long-wheelbase variant of the brand’s compact electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
Designed specifically to meet the growing demand for enhanced rear-seat comfort without compromising efficiency or driving dynamics, the iX1 eDrive20L, which comes with an estimated price of RM255,000, introduces greater practicality to BMW’s entry-level electric SUV range.
The most significant upgrade lies in its dimensions. Compared to the standard iX1, the long-wheelbase version features a 110 mm wheelbase extension, contributing to an overall length increase of 116 mm.
This translates into tangible benefits for rear occupants, including 81 mm of additional legroom and 107 mm more kneeroom, making the iX1 eDrive20L particularly appealing for families and frequent rear-seat passengers.
Externally, the iX1 eDrive20L M Sport retains BMW’s athletic SAV proportions while gaining added road presence. The enclosed kidney grille adopts Extended Shadowline trim, complemented by X-shaped surface detailing that adds depth and character.
Adaptive LED headlights with M Shadowline detailing, flush door handles and pronounced wheel arches housing 19-inch M double-spoke alloy wheels complete the side profile.
At the rear, L-shaped LED taillights and a high-gloss Shadowline diffuser provide a cohesive, modern finish. Boot capacity remains generous at 490 litres, expandable to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded.
Inside, the cabin benefits most from the extended wheelbase. Rear seats now feature softer foam cushioning and a longer seat base for improved thigh support, significantly enhancing comfort on longer journeys.
Up front, drivers are greeted by BMW’s Curved Display and Head-Up Display, powered by the latest BMW Operating System 9, offering faster responses and simplified controls. Sport seats, a leather M steering wheel and Aluminium Hexacube Pale M trim reinforce the vehicle’s sporty identity.
One of the standout interior additions is the Panoramic Skyroof, which spans the length of the cabin without a central support bar. This creates an airy, open atmosphere, while an electric opaque fabric blind ensures privacy and heat management when required.
Additional comfort features include electric front seats with memory, wireless charging, automatic climate control, comfort access and a 205-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers.
Powering the iX1 eDrive20L is a front-mounted electrically excited synchronous motor delivering 150 kW (204 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. The SAV completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h.
A newly tuned comfort-focused suspension setup has been developed specifically for this long-wheelbase variant, prioritising ride comfort on Malaysian roads without sacrificing stability.
Energy is supplied by a 66.5 kWh (gross) battery, delivering a WLTP-rated range of up to 433 km. Charging is straightforward, with 11 kW AC charging completing a full charge in under seven hours, while DC fast charging up to 130 kW enables a 10–80% recharge in approximately 32 minutes.
Notably, up to 120 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions.
Safety and driver assistance are comprehensive, with Driving Assistance Plus and Parking Assistant Plus fitted as standard. Features such as Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, lane assistance, surround view cameras and remote 3D view are tailored for urban driving convenience.
With its blend of space, efficiency and premium technology, the BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport represents a compelling evolution of BMW’s compact electric SAV formula for the Malaysian market.
