Chery International Group has reached a historic milestone, becoming the first Chinese automaker to export more than five million vehicles worldwide. The achievement further extends its streak as China’s top passenger car exporter, a position it has held for 22 consecutive years.
The company’s rapid rise was also reflected in the 2025 Fortune rankings, where it marked a “Double 500” breakthrough for the second year running. Chery climbed to 233rd on the Fortune Global 500 list, up from 385th in 2024, while its spot on the Fortune China 500 rose to 59th from last year’s 100th position.
At the core of this success is OMODA | JAECOO, a brand that has swiftly become one of the fastest-growing names in the global automotive industry. Known for its blend of premium design, advanced technology, and accessible luxury, the marque has built a presence in 44 markets spanning ASEAN, Europe, Australia, and South America.

In just over two years, OMODA | JAECOO has contributed 37% of Chery’s total export volume, with global sales surpassing 570,000 units. This achievement set a new benchmark, making it the fastest-emerging automotive brand to cross the half-million sales mark.
The brand’s technological edge has also driven growth in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) segment. In the first quarter of 2025, sales of OMODA | JAECOO’s NEV models surged to 13,023 units, compared to 2,325 in the same period last year — a 460% year-on-year increase. For the first half of 2025, NEVs made up 40% of the company’s total exports.
Europe has been a key market, with OMODA | JAECOO becoming the fastest-growing Chinese auto brand in the region. In Spain, it made history by selling over 10,000 units within its first 11 months on sale.

The momentum has been equally strong in Malaysia, where the brand has quickly established itself. Following the launch of the JAECOO J7 in July 2024, the lineup expanded with the OMODA C9 in December 2024, the J7 PHEV in February 2025, and most recently the flagship J8 SUV in July 2025. Within just one year, more than 17,000 OMODA | JAECOO vehicles are now on Malaysian roads.
According to data from Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ), OMODA | JAECOO has secured a place among the Top 5 automotive brands in the country during the first half of 2025, while also becoming the best-performing Chinese marque locally.
Looking ahead, the company has outlined an export strategy focused on deeper investments in Europe, South America, and ASEAN markets. Malaysia will play a central role in this expansion as OMODA | JAECOO’s global hub for right-hand-drive vehicles.
