Volvo Flaunts Latest Electric Trucks in Canada

Volvo Trucks North America recently showcased not one or two, but four special models – the VNR Electric, 25th anniversary VNL 760, VNL 860, and the VHD model – in its booth at ExpoCam outside of Montreal, Canada.

“ExpoCam represents the first opportunity in Canada to display our latest offerings in electromobility,” said Paul Kudla, managing director, Canada at Volvo Trucks North America.

“The Class 8 Volvo VNR Electric is already a proven game-changer in the U.S. that is helping our fleet customers meet or surpass sustainability goals through meaningful reductions in tailpipe emissions with no compromise on performance. We look forward to bringing this model to our first Canadian customers very soon.”

Currently in production at Volvo Trucks’ New River Valley manufacturing facility in Dublin, Virginia, the Volvo VNR Electric is equipped with a driveline rated at 455 horsepower, generating up to 4,051 lb.-ft. of torque.

Designed for local and regional driving cycles, the Volvo VNR Electric features 264-kWh battery capacity supporting an operating range of up to 150 miles, with the capability to re-charge to an 80% level of battery energy within 70 minutes.

The 25th anniversary Volvo VNL 760 will also be featured at ExpoCam, which includes Volvo Trucks’ next-generation D13 Turbo Compound (D13TC) engine. First launched in 2019, the D13TC engine is now standard in all Volvo VNL models.

The advanced turbo compound engine is characterized by optimized performance, efficiency and cost savings, delivering up to 6% fuel economy improvements over the Volvo D13 VGT engine while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Cutaways of the Volvo I-Shift intelligent automated manual transmission and latest-generation D13TC engine will be on display, along with the new two-speed electric motor for the Volvo VNR Electric. Other Volvo Trucks’ ExpoCam conference exhibit highlights include:
