The EV MPV To Beat? New XPeng X9 Lands in Malaysia From RM279,888

Bermaz XPeng recently launched the updated 2026 XPeng X9 in Malaysia, bringing a raft of upgrades to what is already one of the most technologically advanced electric MPVs on sale today.

Available in three variants priced from RM279,888, the fully imported (CBU) X9 continues to position itself as a premium all-electric people mover, but the latest update focuses on improving the areas that matter most to family buyers: comfort, convenience, charging speed, and intelligent driving technology.

While the futuristic exterior remains largely unchanged, the X9 receives several notable enhancements. New power soft-close front doors add a touch of luxury, while new exterior colours including Lambent Cyan and Polar Violet give buyers more opportunities for personalisation.

Inside, however, is where the biggest improvements can be found. The seven-seater cabin now offers a more flexible second-row seating arrangement with 40:60 split-folding functionality, making it easier to accommodate child seats, luggage, strollers, or larger cargo. Third-row passengers are no longer an afterthought either, with heated seats now fitted to the rearmost row.

A new intelligent refrigerator with child-lock functionality has also been added, further reinforcing the X9’s positioning as a long-distance family cruiser.

Technology remains a major selling point. The cabin features a massive 21-inch head-up display, a premium 27-speaker X-Opera sound system, and a redesigned ultra-fibre steering wheel. Buyers can also choose from new interior themes, including a premium Rose Brown dual-tone finish exclusive to the flagship AWD variant.

Perhaps the X9’s biggest advantage over rivals lies beneath the skin.

Built on XPeng’s advanced 800-volt silicon carbide electrical architecture, the X9 supports ultra-fast 5C charging that allows the battery to be replenished from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes under optimal conditions.

The entry-level Standard Range variant is equipped with a 94.8-kWh LFP battery that delivers up to 535 km of WLTP-rated range.

Stepping up to the Long Range variant brings a larger 110-kWh NCM battery and a maximum driving range of 615 km, while the range-topping AWD Performance model offers 580 km of range together with dual-motor all-wheel-drive capability.

In a market where charging speed is becoming just as important as range, the X9’s ability to combine over 600 km of driving range with one of the fastest charging systems available gives it a significant edge over many premium EV rivals.

The technological story continues with XPeng’s latest Turing AI chipset, which forms the backbone of the new XPILOT driver assistance system.

Capable of processing up to 750 trillion operations per second (TOPS), the system powers a comprehensive suite of advanced safety and semi-autonomous driving features, including adaptive cruise control, lane centring, lane change assistance, automated parking, remote parking, summon functions, and real-time environment visualisation.

The X9 also comes equipped with nine airbags, a full suite of cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors, as well as active safety systems covering collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance, rear cross-traffic alerts and door-opening warnings.

The updated XPeng X9 is available in the following variants:

X9 FWD Standard Range – RM279,888

X9 FWD Long Range – RM297,888

X9 AWD Performance – RM333,888

All variants come with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty (120,000 km), five years of free scheduled maintenance (100,000 km), and an eight-year high-voltage battery warranty (160,000 km).

With its combination of ultra-fast charging, long-distance capability, luxury-focused practicality and AI-powered driver assistance technologies, the XPeng X9 continues to make a strong case for itself as one of the most complete electric MPVs currently available in Malaysia.

More importantly, it shows how quickly Chinese EV manufacturers are raising the bar in segments traditionally dominated by established premium brands.
