Proton X70 Sport Edition: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Proton X70 Sport Edition

Proton has introduced a sportier take on its popular C-segment SUV with the launch of the Proton X70 Sport Edition. Designed to offer a more distinctive visual presence without compromising comfort and practicality, this special edition is limited to just 600 units nationwide.

Based on the Premium variant, the X70 Sport Edition is finished exclusively in Quartz Black and brings a series of targeted upgrades aimed at enhancing both aesthetics and everyday usability. The move reinforces Proton’s positioning of the X70 as “Malaysia’s Most Refined SUV,” while catering to buyers who want a bolder, more expressive design.

Visually, the Sport Edition adopts a more aggressive stance thanks to a full aerokit comprising front, side, and rear skirts. This is paired with black 19-inch alloy wheels and exclusive Sport Edition badging, giving the SUV a sharper and more premium road presence compared to the standard model.

Inside, the enhancements are subtle but purposeful. Red stitching accents are applied across key touchpoints including the steering wheel and armrest, while the seats feature matching stitching along with embroidered Sport Edition logos. The cabin retains its premium feel but adds a sportier edge, complemented by practical additions such as a boot tray for daily usability.

Under the bonnet, the X70 Sport Edition continues with Proton’s proven 1.5-litre turbocharged i-GT four-cylinder engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This setup delivers a balanced mix of performance and efficiency, while Proton’s well-regarded ride and handling tuning ensures comfort and composure across varied road conditions — a key strength of the X70 since its introduction.

Technology remains a highlight, with a 12.3-inch infotainment system supporting Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside the “Hi PROTON” voice command system and PROTON Link 2.0 connectivity platform. Safety is equally comprehensive, with ADAS Level 2 features including Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking forming part of a 13-function suite.

According to Abdul Rashid Musa, the Sport Edition builds on a trusted formula by offering a more dynamic interpretation of the X70, without sacrificing the comfort and technology that customers expect.

The Sport Edition package is priced at an additional RM2,500 over the standard Premium variant, bringing the total to RM115,300 (Peninsular Malaysia, on-the-road without insurance). Proton states that the upgrades collectively offer around RM6,000 in added value.

Buyers will also receive a comprehensive launch package, including a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, free labour servicing, in-car data, flexible financing options, and insurance benefits.

With limited availability and a stronger visual identity, the Proton X70 Sport Edition is positioned as a compelling option for buyers seeking a familiar SUV with a more distinctive edge.
