Proton is accelerating its efforts to localise the supply of high-tech automotive components for its future vehicle lineup, following the signing of several strategic partnerships.
In a significant move to enhance its local supply chain and technology capabilities, the carmaker has formalised four joint ventures and two technical agreements with established vendors and technology providers currently supplying global automotive brands, including Geely.
These partnerships are aimed at boosting the local production of key components for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) models. The initiative is expected to increase the local content of Proton vehicles, support the adoption of advanced technologies, and raise the competitiveness of Malaysia’s automotive supply chain on both regional and global fronts.

With several new models scheduled for launch this year, the establishment of new component supply arrangements is expected to deliver improved cost-efficiency and enhanced production capabilities for PROTON’s next-generation vehicles.
One of the joint ventures brings together Delloyd Technology Berhad and Imotion Automotive Technology (Suzhou) Co. Ltd. A leading Chinese supplier of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to brands like Geely, ZEEKR, Chery, and Volvo, Imotion will contribute its expertise to develop ADAS systems for PROTON’s upcoming AMA01 model. Delloyd, a long-standing PROTON vendor, will play a key role in local production and integration.
Another major partnership involves PEPS JV (M) Sdn Bhd and Liuzhou Sanly Autoparts Co. Ltd for braking systems. Under the agreement, PEPS will handle component manufacturing while Liuzhou Sanly manages modular assembly. This collaboration aims to improve raw material sourcing and component performance, offering a more cost-effective and reliable braking solution for the AMA01 and upcoming X-Series models.

In the lighting segment, Jiangsu Dekai Auto Parts Co. Ltd has partnered with Malaysia’s JHM Consolidation Berhad. Known for their advanced vehicle lighting systems, Jiangsu Dekai will help JHM transition from a replacement equipment manufacturer (REM) to a full-fledged original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Together, they will develop and assemble state-of-the-art headlamp systems for PROTON vehicles.
The fourth joint venture sees Trillion Speed (M) Sdn Bhd teaming up with Shanghai Yinlun Heat Exchange Systems Co. Ltd to supply HVAC components. This partnership focuses on transferring advanced thermal management technologies, creating new jobs, and strengthening local capabilities in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Their solutions are expected to feature in this year’s product launches as well as future models.
In addition to the joint ventures, two technical agreements were also signed. SHJ Interia Sdn Bhd partnered with Changchun Fawsn Automotive Trim Co. Ltd to enhance the development of interior parts, particularly headlining components. The collaboration includes setting up SHJ’s own R&D facility and evaluating potential investments in Malaysia by Changchun Fawsn.

Meanwhile, Xenso Electronics Sdn Bhd inked an agreement with Freetech Intelligent Systems Co. Ltd to co-develop high-precision ADAS components. The partnership focuses on rear and side detection technologies, essential for modern safety features such as lane change assist and blind spot monitoring.
“As high-tech components become an increasingly critical part of our vehicle offerings, it is essential for PROTON to localise their development and production. This will not only provide a cost advantage but also strengthen the capabilities of our R&D team and local vendor network,” said Wang Huaibing, Chief Procurement Officer at PROTON.
“These agreements are aligned with our long-term strategy to support vehicle manufacturing in Malaysia and contribute to the creation of the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV), led by our shareholders,” he added.
