Proton has officially entered the automotive financing business with the launch of Proton Capital Sdn Bhd, giving customers another option when financing the purchase of a new Proton vehicle.

The new company is not intended to replace banks and other existing lenders, but will operate alongside them with financing products specifically designed around Proton vehicles and customers.

Proton Capital will initially offer its services through 12 participating Proton outlets across the Klang Valley, with 10 dealership groups formally authorised to provide its financing services.

The company is targeting individual buyers of new Proton vehicles, including salaried employees, self-employed customers and those with other verifiable sources of income.

Applications handled through Proton dealers

Customers can apply for Proton Capital financing directly through participating authorised Proton dealerships. Each application will be assessed based on factors including the applicant’s income, existing financial commitments, credit information and ability to meet the repayments.

For straightforward applications with complete documentation, Proton Capital says it aims to provide an initial decision within one working day. Applications requiring additional documentation, verification or further credit assessment may take longer.

“The establishment of Proton Capital adds an important capability to PROTON’s business model. Financing plays a major role in the vehicle-purchase journey, and having a dedicated financing company allows us to work more closely with our dealers and respond more effectively to customers’ needs,” said Zhang Qiang, Chairman of Proton Capital.

More financing products planned

At launch, Proton Capital will provide conventional hire-purchase financing for new Proton vehicles, including a standard fixed-rate package. It will also offer a dedicated financing package for the Proton S70 taxi, while further products are planned for other customer groups.

A financing package aimed at e-hailing drivers is among the products Proton Capital plans to introduce progressively. The company is also targeting the introduction of a Shariah-compliant financing option in early November 2026, subject to product availability and the applicable terms and conditions.

“Our aim is to provide responsible financing solutions built around Proton customers and vehicles. We will begin with standard hire-purchase products and expand our offerings as we better understand the needs of different customer groups,” said Song Tao, CEO of Proton Capital.

There is no application fee for submitting a Proton Capital financing application. Other costs, including stamp duty, statutory charges, insurance or takaful premiums, registration fees and other applicable charges, will be disclosed in the relevant product disclosure sheet before customers sign the financing agreement.

Proton Capital customers will be able to make their monthly instalment payments through online banking or DuitNow Transfer using the unique CIMB Bank account assigned to their financing account. Direct debit payment is also available.

The company recommends customers take up the Proton Insurance Program for vehicle protection, subject to successful vehicle registration. With Proton Capital now operating, buyers will have an additional financing route when purchasing a new Proton, while the company gains greater control over another part of the vehicle ownership process.

The service is currently limited to the 12 participating Klang Valley outlets, with Proton expected to progressively expand its financing offering and reach as more products are introduced.
