MAN TGM is Coming to Malaysia After Securing 5-Star Euro NCAP Rating

The MAN TGM is set to make its way to the Malaysian market, bringing with it one of the highest safety ratings currently achieved by a heavy commercial vehicle in Europe.

Ahead of its local arrival, the MAN TGM recently secured a full five-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP assessment for heavy commercial vehicles, highlighting the truck’s strong focus on driver assistance, accident prevention, and urban safety.

Designed for the mid-tonnage distribution segment up to 16 tonnes, the MAN TGM impressed Euro NCAP across all three major assessment categories: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, and Post-Crash Safety.

The truck was particularly praised for its advanced suite of driver assistance and active safety systems, which are becoming increasingly important in urban and regional delivery operations.

Among the standout features are driver monitoring systems capable of detecting fatigue, emergency braking systems, turning assist technology, as well as lane and speed assistance functions designed to reduce accident risks in everyday operations.

In addition to the five-star rating, the MAN TGM also received Euro NCAP’s CitySafe award, which recognises commercial vehicles that deliver particularly high safety standards in urban environments.

The award takes into account factors such as driver visibility and systems designed to help avoid collisions with vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists.

According to Dr Frederik Zohm, the recognition reflects MAN’s broader commitment towards holistic vehicle safety.

He explained that modern assistance systems now play a crucial role in reducing risks, especially in dense city and distribution traffic where trucks, motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians interact closely.

The Euro NCAP programme, long regarded as one of Europe’s most respected vehicle safety benchmarks, has recently expanded its evaluations to include heavy-duty commercial vehicles under stricter testing criteria.

Assessment areas include visibility, driver monitoring, emergency braking performance, lane assistance systems, protection for vulnerable road users, and post-crash rescue support.

For Malaysia, the arrival of the MAN TGM could mark an important step forward for commercial vehicle safety standards, particularly as logistics and urban delivery operations continue expanding rapidly nationwide.

With fleet operators increasingly prioritising safety, driver support technology, and operational efficiency, the MAN TGM’s strong Euro NCAP performance could give it a significant advantage in the local market once it officially arrives.
