BMW Motorrad Malaysia has officially introduced the all-new BMW F 450 GS, marking the arrival of a new lightweight adventure motorcycle designed to bring the iconic GS experience to a wider range of riders.

First revealed as a concept at EICMA 2024, the production-ready F 450 GS retains the unmistakable GS styling while offering a more manageable package for daily commuting, long-distance touring, and off-road exploration.

Available only in GS Trophy Racing Blue Metallic, the motorcycle comes generously equipped with premium hardware and rider assistance technologies typically found on larger GS models.

Powertrain

Powering the F 450 GS is a newly developed 449cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm.

BMW claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds, while top speed is rated at 165 km/h. Fuel consumption is equally impressive at just 3.8 litres per 100 km, making it suitable for both daily use and long-distance adventures.

The engine is paired to a six-speed gearbox featuring BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts for smoother riding.

One of the biggest highlights of the new model is BMW’s innovative Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) system, fitted as standard on the Trophy variant.

The centrifugal clutch system automatically manages clutch engagement during starts, gear changes and low-speed manoeuvres, reducing rider fatigue in traffic and during off-road riding.

Unlike conventional automatic clutch systems, BMW says the ERC retains full engine braking characteristics and allows riders to manually operate the clutch whenever required.

Combined with Shift Assistant Pro, the setup significantly simplifies riding without sacrificing rider control.

Designed to stay true to the GS formula, the F 450 GS features a lightweight yet robust steel frame paired with long-travel suspension.

Up front sits a fully adjustable 43 mm upside-down fork with 180 mm of travel, while the rear gets a lightweight aluminium swingarm and a directly-linked monoshock, also offering 180 mm of travel.

The motorcycle rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cast aluminium wheels wrapped in dual-purpose tubeless tyres. Braking duties are handled by a Brembo four-piston front caliper gripping a 310 mm disc, complemented by a rear disc brake setup.

BMW has also equipped the bike with practical adventure-focused features such as hand guards, off-road footpegs, a tinted Rallye windscreen, adjustable gear and brake levers, and an aluminium engine guard.

The F 450 GS Trophy comes loaded with a comprehensive electronics suite that includes:

  • ABS Pro
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
  • Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
  • Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR)
  • Riding Modes Pro
  • Wheelie Control
  • Shift Assistant Pro

Riders can choose between four riding modes — Rain, Road, Enduro and Enduro Pro — with the latter offering customisable settings tailored for more demanding off-road conditions.

Handling rider information and connectivity is a large 6.5-inch TFT display, controlled via BMW’s handlebar-mounted multi-controller.

The Trophy model also receives a dedicated Sport Screen displaying detailed data such as lean angle, traction control intervention and braking performance. A USB-C charging port is included as standard for added convenience.

With its lightweight construction, approachable performance, advanced electronics and innovative Easy Ride Clutch technology, the BMW F 450 GS aims to bridge the gap between entry-level adventure motorcycles and BMW’s larger GS models.

Priced at an estimated RM40,000, the new F 450 GS could prove to be one of the most compelling options for riders looking to enter the premium adventure motorcycle segment without stepping into the heavyweight category.
