2026 Isuzu D-Max 2.2L Now Available in Malaysia From RM103k, First-Ever Single Cab Auto

Isuzu Malaysia has officially launched the 2026 Isuzu D-Max range in Malaysia, headlined by a brand-new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that promises more power, more torque, better drivability, improved refinement, and cleaner emissions than the outgoing 1.9-litre unit.

While that alone is already a big deal, the bigger talking point here is this – Malaysia now gets its first-ever Isuzu D-Max Single Cab Auto.

For a model that has already built its reputation on fuel efficiency, durability, payload ability, and day-to-day usability, this latest update looks like Isuzu’s attempt to sharpen the D-Max where it matters most — whether you’re buying one for work, business, off-road use, or simply because you want a pickup that can do just about everything.

The new 2.2-litre engine produces 163 PS at 3,600 rpm and 400 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 2,400 rpm, giving it a noticeable bump over the 1.9-litre it effectively replaces. More importantly, Isuzu says more than half of that torque is already available from just 1,000 rpm, which should translate into stronger low-speed response and less effort when hauling, climbing, or overtaking.

Paired with that engine is a new 8-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift, which should make the new D-Max feel a lot more modern and a lot less commercial in everyday driving.

The 3.0-litre X-Terrain remains the flagship of the range, while the new 2.2L engine now powers the more volume-focused variants.

Twin Cab Variants

For most buyers, the sweet spot in the updated D-Max line-up will likely be the Twin Cab variants, especially the 2.2L Premium 4×4 and 4×2 Auto Plus.

This is where Isuzu is clearly aiming for buyers who want a pickup that can handle weekday duties, weekend balik kampung trips, occasional rough-road use, and maybe even a bit of lifestyle cred without sacrificing the ruggedness that made the D-Max popular in the first place.

With 400 Nm now on tap and a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, the updated Twin Cab should feel stronger and smoother than before, particularly in stop-go traffic and long-distance cruising. That matters because while the old 1.9-litre was already known for its efficiency, some buyers still wanted a bit more punch — and this new 2.2-litre looks like Isuzu’s answer to that.

The visual updates aren’t drastic, but they do enough to freshen things up. The 2026 model gets new light clusters, grille design, wheels, and side steps, while selected variants also gain two new colours – Inishmore Green Metallic and Obsidian Gray Mica.

Inside, the upgrades are modest but useful. The X-Terrain, Premium and 4×2 Auto Plus now come with a new 10-inch infotainment system, while other quality-of-life improvements continue to make the D-Max feel more competitive in a segment where buyers increasingly expect a pickup to double as a family vehicle.

If there’s one big win here beyond the powertrain, it’s emissions. The entire 2.2-litre D-Max range is now Euro 5 compliant, making it one of the cleaner diesel pickups in its class. That being said, the pricing for the Isuzu D-Max 2.2L Premium 4×4 starts from RM141,821.20 in Peninsular Malaysia.

Single Cab Auto

The new Isuzu D-Max 2.2L Single Cab Auto is Malaysia’s first Single Cab pickup with an automatic transmission from Isuzu, and that could be a game changer for users who actually buy pickups for what they were originally meant to do: carry loads, tackle rough roads, and survive abuse.

For contractors, farmers, logistics operators, site supervisors, and SMEs, this matters more than touchscreen sizes or body kits ever will.

The new Single Cab Auto uses the same 2.2-litre diesel engine and 8-speed automatic transmission as the rest of the new range, though Isuzu says it gets a revised final drive to better suit its payload-focused role. In other words, it’s been tuned to work as a commercial tool.

It also gets Rough Terrain Mode, Isuzu’s traction control-based off-road aid that helps improve grip on loose or slippery surfaces. That’s a useful addition for owners who regularly deal with muddy worksites, plantations, gravel roads, or uneven terrain.

The Single Cab Auto also gets its own colour options, including Mercury Silver Metallic and Splash White, while the automatic variants receive body-coloured bumpers for a slightly more contemporary look.

For those who still prefer to keep things basic, the Single Cab Manual remains in the line-up too, with prices starting from RM103,121.20 in Peninsular Malaysia.

Other Updates Across The Range

Beyond the new engine and gearbox, Isuzu has also made a few meaningful updates across the D-Max line-up.

The Standard variant now gets a 7-inch head unit and Tailgate Assist, while Rough Terrain Mode is now standard on all 4×4 variants, including the Single Cab 4×4 Manual.

Isuzu is also sweetening the deal with a 20,000 km / 2-year free periodic maintenance package for all 2026 D-Max 2.2L and 3.0L variants.

Warranty coverage remains strong too, with a 5-year / 150,000 km warranty across the range, while the range-topping X-Terrain continues to stand out with its 7-year unlimited mileage warranty.
