Isuzu Defies Diesel Downturn with Record Truck Share, D-Max Climbs to No.2 Nationwide

Isuzu Malaysia delivered one of its strongest performances to date in 2025, holding firm against a shrinking diesel vehicle market and tightening cost pressures.

While the wider commercial vehicle sector contracted by 11.4% and the pick-up segment fell 7.3% following the diesel price revision, the brand moved in the opposite direction — gaining share, strengthening its model positions and reinforcing its reputation for low operating costs and uptime reliability.

The biggest headline came from its truck division. Isuzu captured a record 56.1% market share with 6,880 units registered, a substantial jump from its previous high in 2023.

The light-duty Isuzu Elf remained the backbone of that success, retaining its status as Malaysia’s most popular truck for the 16th consecutive year and accounting for 92.5% of the brand’s total truck volume.

In the medium-duty space, the Isuzu Forward continued its dominance as the country’s best-selling model, highlighting the strength of Isuzu’s end-to-end commercial line-up.

On the lifestyle side, the Isuzu D‑Max emerged as a key growth driver. Securing a 15% share of the pick-up segment, it pushed the company into a firm No.2 overall position nationwide — a result that reflects rising recognition of the model’s durability, efficiency and long-term value proposition at a time when running costs are under intense scrutiny.

Beyond product strength, the company credits its adaptive dealer network and uptime-focused aftersales ecosystem for sustaining momentum in a challenging environment.

With aftersales intake already up 12% last year, the next phase will centre on faster service turnaround, improved parts availability and further reducing vehicle downtime — critical factors for both fleet operators and private owners.

In a market moving away from diesel, Isuzu’s 2025 performance shows that clearly defined operational advantages — cost efficiency, reliability and purpose-built capability — can still drive growth, even against prevailing industry trends.
