Proton Defies Market Slowdown with Strong November Sales

Proton

Fresh from the strong market response to the launches of the Proton e.MAS 5 and the all-new Proton Saga, PROTON recorded a robust sales performance in November, delivering 13,451 units across domestic and export markets.

This result lifted year-to-date (YTD) sales to 143,322 units, placing the national carmaker 3.6% ahead of its 2024 YTD volume and positioning the company to end the year with positive sales growth, barring any unexpected market shifts.

The achievement comes against the broader industry trend, with Malaysia’s Total Industry Volume (TIV) estimated to be down 0.9% compared to last year. Despite the contraction, PROTON is projected to command an 18.4% market share for November, while its YTD market share stands at 19.7%, reaffirming its status as the country’s second-best-selling automotive brand in an increasingly competitive landscape.

The Proton Saga remained the backbone of PROTON’s November performance, contributing 6,931 units and pushing its YTD total to 66,038 units. Deliveries remained stable despite the ongoing transition to the all-new Saga, as production at the Tanjong Malim plant ramps up to meet sustained demand.

With bookings already surpassing 30,000 units and continuing to grow, the model is expected to strengthen its presence in national sales rankings heading into 2026.

In the SUV segment, the Proton X50 sustained its leadership in the B-segment with 2,127 units sold in November, raising its YTD tally to 25,974 units—an increase of 23.5% over the same period last year.

The Proton S70 also retained its position as the C-segment sedan leader, recording 1,487 units in November and reaching 15,828 units year-to-date.

Additional contributions from PROTON’s internal combustion engine (ICE) range further bolstered the month’s results. The Proton Persona delivered 1,050 units, lifting its YTD total to 14,214 units, while the Proton X70 added 471 units for a YTD figure of 7,184 units.

The Proton X90 recorded 234 units in November, bringing its YTD total to 2,357 units, and the Proton Iriz closed the month with 241 units sold, increasing its cumulative total to 3,208 units.

November also marked another encouraging month for PROTON’s electrification strategy, supported by strong public interest following the introduction of Malaysia’s first affordable electric vehicle, the Proton e.MAS 5.

The launch helped drive a 14.8% month-on-month increase for the e.MAS line-up, underscoring growing consumer confidence in accessible EV offerings.

Leading the charge, the Proton e.MAS 7 recorded 830 units in November, bringing its YTD sales to 7,784 units. This performance allows the model to maintain its position as Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle.

“Following the recent launches of the e.MAS 5 and the all-new Saga, PROTON is well positioned to sustain our sales momentum into 2026,” said Zhang Qiang, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at PROTON.

“We also provided visitors at the recent Proton Tech Showcase with a preview of our upcoming PHEV model, reinforcing the advanced technology image of our range while keeping customer interest high.

Together with initiatives implemented earlier this year, these efforts have contributed to our improved sales performance in 2025, as we prepare for an even stronger growth trajectory next year.”

Exports continue to play a critical role in PROTON’s long-term growth strategy. Throughout 2025, the company has strengthened its international expansion plans, including the establishment of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB) to oversee overseas operations and the rollout of the Proton e.MAS 7 in selected export markets. These efforts culminated in PROTON’s return to Singapore in August.

As a result, export volumes rose by a further 460 units in November, lifting YTD export sales to 5,014 units—37.3% higher than in 2024 and the brand’s strongest export performance since 2022. With the annual target of 6,000 units now within reach, PROTON continues to reinforce its position as Malaysia’s leading automotive exporter.

“Exports will remain a key pillar in achieving PROTON’s long-term objectives,” added Zhang. “It is encouraging to see growing acceptance of our products in overseas markets. Moving forward, we aim to expand into additional countries while leveraging our advanced manufacturing capabilities in Tanjong Malim to support both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive markets.”
