Proton recently demonstrated the impressive real-world fuel efficiency of the Proton S70, through the Penang Proton One Tank Challenge—an event held in conjunction with the Hari Sukan Negara celebrations for the Seberang Perai Tengah district on 11 October.
As one of the event’s strategic partners, PROTON used the challenge to highlight the S70’s balance of power and economy by inviting owners to test their vehicles in a 110km real-world driving route that spanned both Penang Island and the mainland, including both iconic bridges.

The initiative also followed the announcement of PROTON’s role as one of the title sponsors for the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2025, where a brand-new S70 will be given away as a grand prize.
Themed “Drive Efficiently. Live Actively. Celebrate Malaysia,” the One Tank Challenge aligned with the spirit of National Sports Day by encouraging healthy lifestyles and responsible driving. Thirty-three S70 owners took part in the challenge, which tested not only their fuel-saving skills but also the efficiency of the car’s 1.5L turbocharged engine.
Before the flag-off by YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, each car’s fuel tank was filled to maximum capacity and sealed to ensure fair play. The rules were simple—complete the course within the allotted time using as little fuel as possible. Smooth throttle and brake inputs were crucial, as the competition measured efficiency down to the last drop of petrol.

After six hours of driving, Abu Bakar Bin Mohd Yusoff emerged victorious, recording an outstanding consumption rate of 3.48L/100km, equivalent to 31.6km/L. This remarkable figure translates to a potential range of up to 1,580km from the S70’s 50-litre fuel tank—an impressive demonstration of the sedan’s real-world efficiency.
For his achievement, Abu Bakar received RM1,000 in cash, while runners-up Muhammad Syamim Bin Omar Farook and Mohd Aliff Bin Sani achieved 3.98L/100km and 4.40L/100km respectively, earning RM800 and RM600 prizes.
Beyond fuel economy, the event also featured activities for participants’ families, including a colouring contest and a social media challenge celebrating memorable moments with the Proton S70.
Powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Proton S70 produces 150PS and 226Nm of torque, offering a strong blend of performance and economy. Starting at RM73,800, it remains one of the most competitively priced C-segment sedans in Malaysia, appealing to both urban commuters and long-distance drivers.

According to Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar, “The Proton S70 was engineered to meet the needs of drivers who want dynamic performance, comfort, and exceptional fuel efficiency. Events like the One Tank Challenge highlight these qualities and strengthen our connection with customers while reaffirming why the S70 continues to lead its class.”
With results exceeding 30km/L under real driving conditions, the Penang PROTON One Tank Challenge has reinforced the S70’s position as not only a stylish and affordable sedan, but also one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its segment—proving that efficiency and excitement can indeed go hand in hand.
