Following its first public appearance at this year’s Malaysia Auto Show, Proton recently allowed members of the press to have a closer look at the Proton e.Mas 5, its second battery-electric model, which is expected to be launched in October 2025.
While very little was revealed at the MAS 2025, the national carmaker shared quite a bit on the EV this time, and here’s what we know so far.

The e.Mas 5 is essentially a rebadged Geome Xingyuan (known as the “Star Wish” in China), a model introduced in October 2024. With smooth curves and compact proportions, it targets urban drivers and competes directly with the BYD Dolphin.
From what we can see, Proton has retained Xingyuan’s core design, adding only subtle cosmetic tweaks, such as a redesigned C-pillar panel featuring small stars and Proton badging on the front and rear.

Size of the e.Mas 5
- Dimensions: 4,135 mm (L) x 1,805 mm (W) x 1,580 mm (H), with a 2,650 mm wheelbase
- Wheels: 16-inch alloys wrapped in 205/60 R16 tyres
- Ground Clearance: 160 mm
- Visual Features: LED headlights, dual-tone body, no rear wiper, and C-shaped taillights

Platform & Powertrains
Built on Geely’s GMA 02 platform, the e.Mas 5, which is a rear-wheel drive hatch, will be offered in two powertrain configurations:
- e.Mas 5 Prime: 79 PS / 130 Nm torque, top speed: 125 km/h
- e.Mas 5 Premium: 116 PS / 150 Nm torque, 0–50 km/h: 3.9 seconds, top speed: 135 km/h

Battery, Range & Charging
Unlike the e.Mas 7’s Aegis battery, the eMas 5 uses CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries:
| Variant | Battery | WLTP Range | DC Fast Charging (30–80%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime | 30.12 kWh | 250 km | 21 min (est. 50 kW max) |
| Premium | 40.16 kWh | 325 km | 21 min @ 71 kW |
Both variants support 6.6 kW AC charging and come with an integrated live charging map via the infotainment system and mobile app.

Suspension, Brakes & Handling
- Suspension: MacPherson front, multi-link rear
- Braking: 36.9 m stopping distance from 100 km/h
- Turning Radius: 4.95 m

Interior
The cabin closely mirrors the Xingyuan’s layout, finished in an off-white colour scheme for the Premium. A black interior is expected for the base model.
- Screen Setup: 8.8-inch digital cluster + 14.6-inch HD infotainment touchscreen
- Upholstery: Leatherette
- Front Seats: Manual adjustment
- Rear Space: 890 mm legroom, fixed headrests, no centre armrest
- Boot Space: 375L (expandable to 1,320L)
- Frunk: 70L front storage compartment
- Storage Compartments: 32 in total

Notably, it features a powered tailgate, though it omits the tonneau cover by default.
Infotainment & Connectivity

Powered by the Atlas Auto OS (shared with the new X50), the system supports:
- Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- Voice commands in English and Bahasa Malaysia
- 4G/WiFi connectivity
- Six-speaker audio system
- Manual single-zone air-conditioning with rear vents
Omitted features (compared to Xingyuan) include wireless charging, ambient lighting, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) support.

Safety & Driver Assistance
The list of standard safety and driver assistance features on the eMas 5 includes:
- 6 airbags, ESC, ABS, rear sensors
- 360-degree camera with 3D view
- ADAS Suite (12 items):
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
- Lane Change Assist (LCA)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
- Rear Collision Warning (RCW)
- Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
- Front Vehicle Departure Alert (FVD)
- Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
- Door Opening Warning (DOW)
Proton also highlighted a G-TCS anti-skid system for better traction on slippery roads.

Pricing & Availability
Although no price has been confirmed, the e.Mas 5 is expected to be more affordable than the e.Mas 7. Competing with models like the BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 2, and Perodua’s upcoming EV, the e.Mas 5 will surely be priced below RM100,000, but the starting price shall remain a mystery until it is launched officially.
