Proton and Grab Expand Partnership to Empower E-Hailing Drivers

PROTON and Grab Malaysia have reaffirmed their shared commitment to the local e-hailing community by expanding their strategic partnership.

This extended collaboration introduces a wider range of PROTON models — including the new Proton S70 and the premium X-Series — specifically tailored to support Grab driver-partners across various service tiers.

The initiative builds upon the momentum generated by the successful “Saga Power Up for Grab Driver-Partners” campaign launched in November 2024. That campaign alone led to 220 new customer leads and saw 148 units of the Proton Saga registered for use by Grab drivers.

The strong response underscores the continued popularity of PROTON’s vehicles among e-hailing professionals and reflects both companies’ mutual aim to modernise Malaysia’s ride-hailing fleet with dependable and cost-effective transportation solutions.

As part of this enhanced partnership, Grab driver-partners now have access to a broader portfolio of PROTON vehicles, including models that cater to the GrabCar Plus and GrabCar (6-Seater) segments. Beyond the wider selection, eligible drivers can also enjoy exclusive benefits, such as:

  • Cash rebates of up to RM13,000
  • 5% discount on service and maintenance (valid for up to two years or 40,000 km)
  • RM500 worth of fuel support to help ease operational costs during the early ownership period

To mark the extension of the partnership, a signing ceremony took place at the PROTON Centre of Excellence. The event was attended by Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of Proton Edar; Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations & Mobility at Grab Malaysia; Wan Hazran, Director of After Sales at Proton Edar; Ong Chee Wooi, Deputy Director of Sales at Proton Edar; and Gerald Lian, Head of Driver Acquisition & Strategic Supply at Grab Malaysia.

Commenting on the milestone, Ong Chee Wooi remarked, “This enhanced collaboration with Grab Malaysia is a key milestone in our journey to support Malaysia’s gig economy.

By making models like the S70 and our premium X-Series more accessible to driver-partners, we’re not only offering great vehicles but also peace of mind — thanks to our reputation for reliability and low ownership costs.”

Rashid Shukor echoed the sentiment, stating, “We’re proud to strengthen our partnership with PROTON, as it reflects our commitment to supporting Malaysians through flexible earning opportunities.

The wider model selection gives our driver-partners more options to elevate their service quality and meet the evolving demands of passengers. Together, we aim to create a more inclusive and accessible future for all.”

This expanded alliance reinforces the vital role both companies play in shaping the future of mobility in Malaysia — empowering drivers with better tools and more opportunities.
