Chery Malaysia has officially introduced the new Chery O5, which is essentially the updated Omoda 5. Replacing the Omoda 5 nameplate, the Chery O5 builds on the success of its predecessor with upgraded technology, design, and performance features. Offered only in one variant now, the Chery O5 is priced at RM116,900 on the road without insurance.
The Chery O5 is powered by a 1.5T engine producing 156 PS and 230 Nm, paired with a new 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (6DCT) which replaces the outgoing CVT.
Also new is the segment-first multi-link independent rear suspension, which replaces the previous torsion beam, providing improved comfort, handling stability, and cornering performance. Three driving modes — Eco, Normal, and Sport — are also available.
The exterior features Chery’s Pixel Diamond Front Grille, an X-shaped bumper, arrow-shaped LED DRLs with sequential turn signals, 18-inch black alloy wheels, and a redesigned rear spoiler.
Inside, the cabin introduces a 20.5-inch integrated dual screen, a frameless rear-view mirror, ventilated front seats with power adjustment, wireless charging, cooling storage, and seamless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support. A SONY 8-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof, and 64-colour ambient lighting further enhance the interior.
Built with 78% high-strength steel, the Chery O5 carries a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, ISOFIX, and 18 Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Jam Assist, and a 540° panoramic camera system.
Measuring 4,400 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,588 mm tall, with a 2,630 mm wheelbase, the Chery O5 offers 442 litres of boot capacity. The SUV is offered in Carbon Black, Phantom Grey, Khaki White, and Blood Stone Red. Customers will benefit from a 7-year/150,000 km warranty and 5 years of free labour service.
Early buyers under the launch package will receive an extended 10-year/1,000,000 km warranty and 3 years of all-inclusive free service, along with attractive financing options starting at RM990 per month via Maybank.
Since its debut as the OMODA 5 in 2023, the model has delivered more than 13,000 units in Malaysia. Globally, the Chery O5 is now sold in 38 countries, including Australia, Spain, Italy, Indonesia, and South Africa, achieving 44,769 sales between January and August 2025 alone.
