BMW Malaysia has launched the latest iteration of its popular compact four-door coupé — the new BMW 218i Gran Coupé Sport — redefining what’s possible in the premium compact segment. Building upon the success of the outgoing model introduced in 2020, the refreshed Gran Coupé enters a new generation with sharper design, enhanced digital capabilities, and improved driving dynamics.
Priced at RM241,000, the updated model is tailored for a new generation of drivers who seek individuality, performance, and connectivity in equal measure. With its athletic silhouette, revamped chassis, and immersive tech features, the new 218i Gran Coupé Sport is engineered to deliver a refined yet spirited driving experience.
Up front, the new 218i Gran Coupé Sport is immediately recognisable by its redesigned BMW kidney grille, which now features vertically and diagonally arranged slats. This is flanked by Adaptive LED headlights equipped with vertical daytime running lights and anti-glare high beam with cornering function — a contemporary twist on BMW’s classic four-eyed face.
Aerodynamic enhancements such as vertically oriented side air intakes and a split central lower intake inspired by BMW M styling lend the front fascia added aggression. The signature coupé roofline and a refreshed Hofmeister kink with an embossed “2” on the rear side window continue to celebrate BMW’s design heritage. At the rear, the car features vertically-styled LED tail lights and a reshaped sport diffuser for a more planted and assertive stance.
Adding to its visual appeal are 18-inch Bicolour alloy wheels, high-gloss black wing mirror caps, and Exterior Line Satin Aluminium trim — details that underscore its road-ready presence.
Inside, the cabin reflects a balance of sporty intent and premium finish. Taking centre stage is BMW’s new Curved Display, integrating a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central control touchscreen. Paired with the latest BMW Operating System 9 and QuickSelect functionality, it delivers intuitive touch and voice control.
Ambient lighting, backlit aluminium trim with diagonal motifs, and a three-spoke sport steering wheel add to the cabin’s contemporary appeal. The seats are upholstered in high-quality Veganza perforated material, offering both comfort and a sustainable touch. Other highlights include a reworked centre console with wireless charging, new cupholders, and additional storage space — all designed to support an always-connected lifestyle.
Passenger comfort in the rear is equally considered, with matching quilted upholstery and 430 litres of boot space, maintaining the practicality of its predecessor.
Powering the 218i Gran Coupé Sport is a newly developed 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, optimised for thermodynamic efficiency using the Miller cycle. It produces 156 hp and 230 Nm of torque, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h. Power is sent to the front wheels via a smooth-shifting seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission.
BMW has also significantly reengineered the chassis for this new generation. The suspension setup includes MacPherson struts at the front and a three-link rear axle with optimised geometry and stabilisers, enhancing steering precision and cornering dynamics. The inclusion of BMW’s ARB (actuator-related wheel slip limitation) technology further improves traction and stability in varying conditions.
The new 218i Gran Coupé Sport is equipped with an impressive suite of advanced safety and driver assistance features. Standard equipment includes the Driving Assistant package, which offers Lane Change Warning, Speed Limit Info, Rear Cross Traffic Alert with braking intervention, and Exit Warning.
Additional support systems include Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Reverse Emergency Braking, and a Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant and Rear View Camera — ideal for tight urban environments.
On the digital front, the BMW Live Cockpit Plus introduces a smartphone-like user interface with real-time widgets, enhanced voice recognition through BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and seamless over-the-air updates via BMW Remote Software Upgrade.
The available BMW Digital Premium package transforms the car into an entertainment hub, offering high-resolution video streaming and access to popular music services. BMW Digital Key Plus also enables compatible smartphones to function as a secure digital car key.
The new BMW 218i Gran Coupé Sport is offered in three exterior colours: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, and Cape York Green. Inside, all variants feature Black Veganza perforated upholstery for a sophisticated yet sporty finish.
