All-New Mazda CX-5 Gets Hybrid Power, New Design, New Tech

Mazda CX-5 2025

Mazda has officially introduced the all-new, third-generation CX-5 — a reimagined version of its best-selling SUV that blends refined aesthetics, intuitive technology, and an updated 2.5-litre petrol engine. Set to arrive in the UK by summer 2026, the latest CX-5 promises a compelling mix of style, performance, and everyday practicality.

Staying true to its iconic silhouette, the new CX-5 showcases the next evolution of Mazda’s Kodo design language, underpinned by the brand’s Skyactiv vehicle architecture, originally launched with the first-generation model in 2012.

Inside, the SUV embraces smarter connectivity and user-friendly digital interfaces. A redesigned infotainment system now offers either a 12.9-inch or 15.6-inch touchscreen with customisable menus and smartphone-style navigation.

Notably, the CX-5 becomes the first Mazda to feature Google built-in for seamless integration of apps and services. Complementing this setup is a 10.25-inch digital driver display, simplified steering controls, and — on higher-spec models — a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system.

Designed around the concept of “Wearable Gear,” the new CX-5 adopts a sportier, more confident stance with a stretched wheelbase, enhancing its presence on the road. These changes also translate into more interior space and a larger boot, which now offers 61 litres of additional capacity. Wider rear door openings and a 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench further boost its versatility for families and active lifestyles.

The cabin itself is crafted to deliver a sense of calm and sophistication. The minimalist dashboard and enhanced centre console provide a driver-centric layout without sacrificing passenger comfort. Top-tier trims add upscale features such as a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting integrated into the door panels, especially in the flagship Homura variant.

Buyers can choose from four trim levels: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura — each offering distinct design elements and material finishes. Interior choices include black or tan leather in the Homura, and a black-and-white synthetic leather with suede-like inserts in the Exclusive-Line.

Under the hood, the all-new CX-5 is powered by a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine paired with Mazda’s 24V mild-hybrid system. Replacing the previous 2.0-litre unit, this updated powertrain produces 141 PS and 238 Nm of torque, enabling the front-wheel drive version to complete the 0–62 mph sprint in 10.5 seconds. The hybrid system also includes a brake-by-wire setup for improved efficiency and response.

The new CX-5 is available with both front- and all-wheel drive, and its revised chassis and suspension deliver a more composed ride with improved handling. With a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg, it’s well-suited for adventurous drivers who need more capability from their SUV.

Safety has also been enhanced, with an expanded suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) aimed at achieving a top 5-star Euro NCAP rating.

Commenting on the new release, Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK, said: “The CX-5 has played a pivotal role in our brand’s journey in the UK, and we’re excited to welcome the third generation. Since its introduction in 2012, it has consistently impressed buyers with its design, build quality, and driving appeal — now with over 100,000 units sold in the UK alone.”

He added, “The SUV market has evolved dramatically since the original CX-5 debuted. Today, the CX-5 shares the spotlight with other models like the CX-30, CX-60, and the upcoming CX-80, but it remains a cornerstone of our SUV lineup thanks to its reputation for delivering sporty dynamics and generous equipment levels.”
