Proton S70 Lite and Prime Variants Now Open for Booking, Under RM60,000

Malaysia’s Proton S70 is getting more affordable, with the addition of two new variants expected to be priced below RM60,000 when officially launched.

Proton has expanded the S70 line-up with the new Lite and Prime variants, both powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-GT engine paired with a CVT. Bookings open today, 7 September 2026, at authorised Proton dealers nationwide.

While Proton has yet to reveal the final prices, the company says both variants are expected to sit below the RM60,000 mark, potentially making the S70 one of the more accessible options for buyers looking for a spacious sedan with C-segment dimensions.

Final pricing will be announced at the official launch.

More affordable S70, without stripping out the essentials

The new Lite and Prime variants are aimed at buyers who prioritise space, comfort and everyday practicality rather than outright performance.

Instead of the turbocharged powertrain found in higher-specification S70 variants, the new models use Proton’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated i-GT engine coupled to a CVT.

Proton says the combination is tuned to deliver a smoother and more relaxed driving experience, making the new variants particularly suited to daily commuting and family use.

The new models retain the S70’s Ride & Handling characteristics as well as three selectable driving modes.

Despite their lower positioning in the range, Proton says the Lite and Prime variants come with a comprehensive equipment list, including 10 features it describes as class-leading.

These include:

  • Class-leading cabin space
  • Class-leading rear passenger shoulder room
  • Soft-touch instrument panel
  • Auto Up/Down windows with Anti-Trap
  • Electric Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold
  • Remote engine start
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Rear Side Radar System
  • Reverse camera
  • Rear Seat Reminder

Space remains a key selling point

The S70’s relatively large dimensions and wide body are central to the new variants’ appeal.

Proton highlights generous front and rear passenger space, with the wider body providing greater shoulder room for rear occupants. A near-flat rear floor also improves usability when carrying three passengers across the rear bench.

There are also multiple storage areas throughout the cabin, adding to the S70’s practicality for family and everyday use.

Comfort is another focus, with the new variants featuring leatherette seats and a soft-touch dashboard.

Proton also claims class-leading NVH performance, aiming to provide a quieter cabin and more refined driving experience compared with what buyers might expect from an entry-level variant.

Safety and connectivity included

Technology and convenience equipment have also been carried over into the more affordable variants.

Both the Lite and Prime come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while other equipment includes an EPB with Auto Brake Hold, remote engine start, five USB ports and Auto Up/Down windows with Anti-Trap, with equipment varying according to variant.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, front and rear parking sensors and a Rear Side Radar System.

The radar-based system incorporates:

  • Blind Spot Detection
  • Lane Change Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Door Opening Warning
  • Rear Collision Warning

A reverse camera and Rear Seat Reminder are also provided as standard.

S70 continues to gain momentum

The new variants arrive as Proton looks to build on the S70’s strong performance in the Malaysian market.

According to Proton, the S70 has averaged more than 2,500 units in monthly sales in 2026, and the expanded line-up is intended to broaden its appeal to buyers looking for an affordable yet well-equipped sedan.

With estimated pricing below RM60,000, the new S70 Lite and Prime could significantly change the value proposition of Proton’s C-segment sedan.
