The new Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale is a limited-production special based on the recently launched 12Cilindri, created for enthusiasts who believe the journey matters just as much as outright speed. Rather than chasing lap records, this car celebrates the connection between driver and machine through the simple act of changing gears yourself.
At the heart of the experience is Ferrari’s newly developed Manuale by-wire system. Instead of a conventional mechanical linkage, the gear lever and clutch pedal communicate electronically with the company’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The result is a manual gearbox experience that delivers the tactile feel and engagement of a traditional three-pedal setup while benefiting from the precision and reliability of modern electronics.
Unlike many automated manuals, Ferrari has engineered the system to feel genuinely analogue. The gear lever features carefully tuned mechanical resistance, distinct clicks during each shift, and even acoustics designed to recreate the satisfying sensation of rowing through a classic Ferrari gearbox.
The clutch pedal has received the same level of attention. Its by-wire system mimics the weight and progression of a traditional clutch, rewarding smooth coordination while allowing mistakes. Miss a shift or release the clutch improperly, and the car can jerk or even stall—just like a real manual. That deliberate inclusion is exactly the point, making every successful shift feel earned.
Interestingly, drivers aren’t locked into using the manual all the time. The Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale can still operate in automatic mode when convenience is preferred, offering the flexibility of a grand tourer with the involvement of a traditional sports car whenever the mood strikes.
Power continues to come from Ferrari’s glorious naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, revving all the way to 9,500 rpm. The high-revving character of the engine makes it the perfect partner for manual gear changes, encouraging drivers to fully explore the engine’s powerband rather than relying on lightning-fast paddle shifts.
Inside, Ferrari has also revived one of its most iconic design elements—the open metal gear gate. Modernised for the 21st century, it sits proudly on a redesigned centre console alongside a beautifully machined aluminium gear knob displaying the classic six-speed shift pattern.
Combined with the three-pedal layout, it creates an interior that pays tribute to legendary Ferrari grand tourers of the 1950s through the 1970s while remaining unmistakably modern.
Exclusivity is guaranteed, with production limited to just 1,499 units worldwide. The number is a nod to the displacement of Ferrari’s very first V12 engine introduced in 1947. Each example will also feature exclusive Tailor Made finishes, unique forged wheels, commemorative badging, aluminium door sills, and styling cues inspired by the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale isn’t about being the quickest Ferrari ever built. Instead, it represents something increasingly rare in today’s performance car world: a machine designed to maximise emotion rather than efficiency.
