BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors have expanded their presence in the northern region with the launch of BYD Mansion Macalister, a new flagship showroom located in the heart of George Town, Penang.
Housed within a restored heritage property along Macalister Road, the new facility reflects a different approach to automotive retail by blending Penang’s cultural identity with BYD’s growing electric vehicle lineup and customer-focused EV ecosystem.
The opening ceremony was attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Penang State Executive Councillor H’ng Mooi Lye, while the event also marked another milestone for the brand with the celebration of its 5,000th BYD owner in Malaysia’s northern region.

The launch comes as BYD continues to strengthen its footprint in Malaysia amid rising EV demand nationwide. According to the company, it currently operates more than 43 showrooms and over 25 dedicated aftersales centres across the country, with further investments being channelled into service infrastructure, technician training, and customer support.
BYD Mansion Macalister itself has been designed as more than just a traditional showroom. In addition to displaying the brand’s EV lineup, the facility features consultation lounges, digital customer touchpoints, integrated charging facilities, and an attached service centre aimed at creating a more seamless ownership experience.
The move reflects a broader strategy by BYD and Sime Motors to position aftersales support and customer confidence as key pillars of EV adoption, especially as more Malaysians begin transitioning away from internal combustion vehicles.
Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co. Ltd. and General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, said Malaysia remains an important market in the company’s long-term electrification plans.

He noted that BYD will continue investing in local EV expertise, advanced technologies, and customer support systems to support the country’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia for Sime Motors, said the company’s focus goes beyond vehicle sales by ensuring customers receive strong long-term ownership support through trained technicians, accessible aftersales services, and integrated retail facilities.
Beyond expanding infrastructure, BYD Sime Motors is also investing heavily in workforce development through continuous training programmes for sales advisors, service personnel, and EV technicians. The company says this ensures Malaysian customers have access to globally certified EV expertise locally.

To coincide with the launch, BYD Sime Motors also organised a media drive from Ara Damansara to Penang using several BYD electric vehicle models. Covering approximately 360 kilometres, the convoy was intended to demonstrate the real-world range, comfort, and long-distance usability of the brand’s EV lineup on Malaysian roads.
The company added that its aftersales operations currently maintain a 95 percent parts fill rate, helping reduce waiting times and improve ownership confidence for existing customers.
As competition in Malaysia’s EV market intensifies, the opening of BYD Mansion Macalister signals BYD’s continued push to strengthen both its brand presence and ownership ecosystem beyond the Klang Valley.
