Ducati Unveils the new Panigale V4 R: MotoGP Technology for the Road

Ducati has introduced the 2026 Panigale V4 R, the most advanced version of its flagship superbike. Developed with direct input from Ducati Corse, the V4 R brings MotoGP- and World Superbike-derived technologies to a road-legal motorcycle, offering enthusiasts a machine as close to a factory racer as regulations allow.

The V4 R continues Ducati’s tradition of homologation specials, which began with the 996R in 2001. Each unit is produced in a numbered series, with the model name and serial number displayed on the steering plate.

These models serve as the foundation for Ducati’s World Superbike Championship entries, making them the most performance-focused motorcycles in the brand’s lineup.

At the heart of the Panigale V4 R lies the 998 cc Desmosedici Stradale R engine, designed for racing homologation. In Euro-5+ configuration, the engine produces 218 hp at 15,500 rpm and 114.5 Nm of torque at 12,000 rpm.

US-spec models deliver slightly less at 208.4 hp. Engineers redesigned the intake system, cams, and sub-throttle injectors for better combustion and efficiency, while a high-permeability air filter helps maximize airflow.

With a racing exhaust fitted, output increases to 235 hp, and with Ducati Corse Performance Oil, it peaks at 239 hp. The engine revs up to 16,500 rpm in sixth gear, figures once reserved for MotoGP machinery. Top speed is rated at 318 km/h in standard trim, climbing to 330 km/h with racing exhausts.

The 2026 V4 R debuts MotoGP-style Corner Sidepods on a road bike for the first time. These aerodynamic elements generate ground effect at high lean angles, improving grip and allowing faster cornering. Enlarged wings add 25% more downforce compared to the previous model, generating up to 6 kg at 300 km/h.

The bike adopts Ducati’s Front Frame and Hollow Symmetrical Swingarm, designed for stiffness levels compatible with modern racing slicks. Suspension comes from Öhlins, with a pressurized NPX25/30 fork, TTX36 shock, and the new SD20 steering damper, offering a wide adjustment range.

The swingarm pivot can be adjusted across four positions, and the rear suspension has broader height adjustment than before, catering to different circuits and rider preferences.

The Ducati Racing Gearbox (DRG) repositions neutral below first gear, mirroring MotoGP bikes. This prevents accidental neutral engagement during heavy braking, while the Ducati Neutral Lock (DNL) system further ensures reliability. Gear changes between first and second are also quicker and more consistent.

Electronics have been upgraded with the Ducati Vehicle Observer (DVO) algorithm, enabling more precise control of engine braking and traction. A new Race Brake Control strategy allows greater use of the rear brake during corner entry, extending braking performance and stability. The 6.9-inch TFT dashboard includes a track-specific “Grip Meter” display, helping riders manage available traction.

The V4 R rides on forged aluminium wheels shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP v4 tyres, with the option to fit World Superbike-spec slicks. Braking is handled by new Brembo Hypure calipers paired with 330 mm discs, designed for improved heat dissipation and consistent performance during track use.

Ducati Performance offers an extensive accessory catalogue, including carbon fibre rims, racing fairings, upgraded brakes, and the Ducati DAVC Race Pro software for advanced engine calibration. A Ducati Data Logger system is also available to aid riders in fine-tuning setup based on telemetry.

Deliveries of the Panigale V4 R will begin in Europe in November 2025, followed by the United States and other markets in December.
