Great Wall Motor (GWM) has officially introduced the Tank 500 to the Malaysian market during the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, marking the arrival of its much-anticipated premium off-road SUV.
Aimed squarely at competitors like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Everest, the Tank 500 combines a robust hybrid powertrain, impressive all-terrain capabilities, and a luxurious seven-seat cabin — all housed in a striking, authoritative design.

Under the hood, the Tank 500 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 342 PS and 648 Nm of torque. This hybrid system is paired with a 9-speed Hydraulic Automatic Transmission (HAT) and a smart all-wheel-drive system, ensuring strong performance on both paved roads and rugged trails.
Designed around a ladder-frame chassis, the Tank 500 is purpose-built for off-road adventure. Key features include front and rear electronic locking differentials, 11 drive modes, and the unique ‘Tank Turn’ function that helps the vehicle pivot in tight off-road scenarios.

With a water-wading capacity of up to 800 mm, a ground clearance of 224 mm, and advanced systems such as off-road cruise control, transparent body view, and terrain-focused visualization, the SUV is ready for serious exploration.
Measuring 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, the Tank 500 makes a bold statement on the road. Its aggressive front grille, full LED lighting setup, and 20-inch alloy wheels highlight its rugged charm, while refined exterior accents underline its upscale status.
Inside, the Tank 500 offers an upscale environment that goes beyond basic utility. The interior is appointed with Nappa leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a large 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

A 12-speaker Infinity audio system, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, power-adjustable front seats with memory, and reclining third-row seats ensure a comfortable ride for every passenger.
Equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the Tank 500 enhances both safety and convenience with features such as:
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- 360-Degree Surround View Camera
- The ‘Wisdom Dodge’ system — designed to subtly shift the vehicle within its lane to make way for motorcyclists or larger vehicles

Additional protection is offered through multiple airbags, including a central airbag for enhanced occupant safety.
That being said, the GWM Tank 500 is priced at RM328,800 on the road without insurance.
